Don't want Strong

We won't get Patterson or Kelly

Shane Beamer or Chad Morris on my short list.

I'd be excited with Beamer, Herman, or Hudspeth.

I like Fuente, but not sure about his offensive style (as in, I don't know anything about it).

I don't want a "name" from somewhere else. I want our version of Hugh Freeze.

Level 1. Chip Kelly, Saben, Urban Meyer, Bill Bellicheck, Gary Patterson, Mark Dantonio

Level 2. Herman, Kirby Smart, Mark Stoops, Dave Doeren, Doc Holliday (keeps rising his stock,)

Level 3. Fuente, Chad Morris, Fedora (if he can bring Chizkik too), Mark Hudspeth, Pruitt (he would help with recruiting a lot with his networks and...abilities.)

Level LOL. Strong, Butch Davis, Bubba, James Franklin, Al Golden, Lame Kitten,

I'd like for us to look at the following...

Chip Kelly (if fired from Eagles this year)
Mark Dantonio (at least reach out and make a call, likely won't leave Michigan St.)

Kirby Smart

Tom Herman
Justin Fuente
Mark Hudspeth
Bryan Harsin (Heavy Boise St. background, not likely anyway)
Doc Holliday

The Memphis coach as moved up to my favorite

They have an elite offense and play great defense. I truly believe he is a future coaching star.

100% in on Justin Fuente, the record speaks for itself. Young, good recruiter, great coach. Makes way too much sense for where we are as a program right now for us to go after Fuente with his track record at Memphis. He honestly makes all the sense in the world and should be Tanner's first phone call

If not him, go after Tom Herman, guy is going to be a star, you can see how Ohio State is struggling without him there (even though I fear he wouldn't stay long and would jump for the next really big job).

If those 2 fail then I'd go get Kirby Smart and surround him with a great staff

Maybe go with D.J. Durkin (his defenses speak for themselves) get him a good OC and we're set

The last thing we need is D'Antonio especially with his health issues

For all out fun PJ Fleck (Western Michigan) would be the most entertaining coach in CFB if we're looking for pure entertainment/energy value (and following Spurrier we'd have the entertainment category locked up). Plus he's young and can really recruit (super high risk/potential reward)

This is a rebuilding job, with great facilities and untapped recruiting ground in North Carolina (need to make this a focus), Virginia, and GA and Florida with a stellar 2018 in state class on the way

Below I put a list of everyone mentioned in this thread. I linked to their wiki page so you could see more about them (those summaries are easier to scan than their school bio pages.) I also put their current salary, overall record and record in the 3 most recent seasons (except Chip's.)

Current HC Candidates (P5 or NFL)
Gary Patterson - HC TCU - $3.5M - (138-45, 22-9 last 3 years.)
Mark Dantonio- HC Mich St - $3.6M - (99-48, 30-3 last 3 years...wow.)
Chip Kelly - HC Eagles - $6.5M - (46-7, 36-4 last 3 years at Oregon.)
Mark Stoops - HC Kentucky - $3.26M (11-18)
Dave Doreon - HC NC State - $2.2M - (38-20, 15-16 last 3 years.)
Larry Fedora - HC UNC - $1.9M (59-37, 17-14 last 3 years)
Steve Addazio - HC Boston College - $2.6M (30-26, 17-15 last 3 years.)
Dan Mullen - HC Miss St - $4M (50-33, 21-11 last 3 years.)
Hugh Freeze - HC Ole Miss - $4.5M, (59-23, 22-10 last 3 years.)
Kliff Kingsbury - HC TX Tech - $3.1M - (16-15, and 16-15 last 3 years.)
Sonny Dykes - HC California - $2M - (33-34, 11-19 last 3 years.)
Kyle Whittingham - HC Utah - $2.6M - (90-43, 19-11 last 3 years.)
Pat Fitzgerald - HC Northwestern - $2.5M - (65-54, 15-15 last 3 years.)
Pat Narduzzi - HC Pitt - $900K - (4-1, former DC at Mich St.)
Rich Rodriguez - HC Arizona - $3.2M - (150-100-2, 22-11 last 3 years.)
Bobby Petrino - HC Louisville - $3M - (94-37, 19-11 last 3 years.)
Mike Gundy - HC Oklahoma St - $3.6M - (90-44, 23-9 last 3 years.)

Current HC Candidates (non P5)
Chad Morris - HC SMU - $1.3M - (1-5)
Tom Herman - HC Houston - $1.45M - (5-0)
Mark Hudspeth - HC ULL- $1.05M - (104-39, 20-11 last 3 years)
Justin Fuente - - HC Memphis - $1.4M - (22-20, 18-11 last 3 years.)
Doc Holliday - HC Marshall - $758K (45-26, 28-6 last 3 years.)
Bryan Harsin - HC Boise St - $1M (24-8, 24-8 last 3 years.)
Matt Campbell - HC Toledo - $500K - (31-13, 21-9 last 3 years.)

Current AHC or Coordinator Candidates
Shame Beamer] - AHC/RB/Rec Coord Va Tech - $244K
Kirby Smart - DC Bama - $1.5M
Bud Foster - DC Va Tech - $1.4M

Good news, none of these guys is out of our price range (as long as Kelly comes down from his NFL level salary.)

NCAA HC Salaries
NCAA Asst Coach Salaries
We also commit $3.33M for Asst Coaches Salaries, that puts us at #13 nationally. We can afford a Top Tier support staff.

UPDATE 11/18) There was a lot of noise regarding Tom Herman Tuesday. The Houston Chronicle reported the board at the University of Houston is to meet Thursday to discuss an amendment to Herman’s contract in an effort to fight off his suitors. Herman reportedly makes $1.35 million annually. The talk of Herman and Missouri also intensified as the Tigers are starting to set the wheels in motion on their search. It’s well known the AD at Mizzou hired Herman at Houston. All that being said, here’s what you need to know. We were told Tuesday night Ray Tanner and Herman have been communicating thru the third party and the two are on the same page about what each one wants. We were also told the two will sit down together at the appropriate time to make sure it’s a fit for both parties. If a formal announcement were to come, it would be made soon after Houston’s final regular season game if it’s not in the AAC championship game December 5th. If the Cougars are in the title game, the announcement would come soon after that.

Houston lost to UCON today. If they lose next week they are out of their conference championship game and would expedite the hiring process if hes our guy

So what's everyone's list that they'd like to see us pursue since Herman or Smart seems more unlikely.

This would be my short list in no particular order:

Muschamp
Mullen
Richt
Fedora

Most which I'm not particularly thrilled about.

Honestly once all this talk about Muschamp happened, I whined about it for a little bit, I even got a little salty, and then as time passed I warmed up to the possibility that we could at least do something with him and I got over it.

It's done, it's happening, now I get to have some cynical laughs about it while also hoping for the best at the same time.

Muschamp I feel is going to be an awful hire, but I'm still going to remain a Gamecock fan through it all because...well, that's the team I love. Plain and simple.

I look forward to many more seasons of posting, laughing, melting, and hopefully celebrating with all of the people on the SEC Rant. As most of y'all know, this was my first season on the Rant. A real rough season for sure, but it was full of some crazy shite along the way.

Anyways, it's the beginning of a new era today! Let's see who he hires and what he can do and try to make the most of it.

Bentley's twitter has himself as RB Coach at South Carolina, seems pretty official to me. Mentioning since it hadn't been confirmed officially yet.

Update OP with Marcus Lattimore - Director of Character Development.

He will work with the players on the team in that regard and will also be involved in the recruiting side of things, especially when prospects take unofficial and official visits to South Carolina.

So it's important, some of the other positions that are being filled, like Robbie Liles, Clyde Wrenn, et al.

These days these new positions that are opening ... it's all part of the new way of doing things. Very very important stuff. Part of our new and improved recruiting budget. Worth noting as each position is filled.
