I'm sorry but the death penalty is the most backwards-arse thing America has going.

I think it's a capital idea but fails in execution. Just wanted to inject that.

It's like Chicken banning Circus Child for banning posters to show that banning is wrong

Meanwhile, in Georgia, Kelly Gissendaner has been left hanging regarding the time of her execution. It was supposed to happen at 7 p.m. but the usual machinations by her attorneys and supporters, including the Pope, have resulted in delay after delay.
It might be well into the night before she's put to sleep. She was sentenced to death after planning the murder of her husband with her lover in 1997.

Killing a defenseless person is something I can't condone.
Get two of 'em, throw a hammer between 'em, one who kills the other gets to live.
All jest aside, I stay with my initial statement.
Killing a defenseless person is an abomination, no matter what they have done.

Haven't you mentioned being a fan of Kant?

Yes, that I support one article of someone means that I unilaterally support every idea they've ever issued.
That's exactly how a person's philosophical identity is identified.

I was just asking. I thought you had mentioned it. I think it's a solid point. I didn't say you had to be a committed Kantian. Everything is okay.

There are just some people I don't feel comfortable sharing the same oxygen with. I don't know how anyone can argue that Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer shouldn't immediately be killed as soon as they're pronounced guilty. I think most Americans would shite a collective brick if they found out that their portion of taxes paid that year would go to keeping one of these monsters alive instead of just burning $30 to put a bullet between his eyes and then transferring him to the closest ditch.
I think the death penalty should only be used in rather extreme cases of evil and there are several witnesses to where it's irrefutable. And personally I'd rather get lethal injection than rot in jail forever. It's just putting some of these animals out of their misery.

I support the death penalty, I see no issue with executing people guilty of certain incredibly heinous crimes. Abortion and the opposition to gay marriage are far more backwards IMO.

Because we're not supposed to be the same as them.

Your position is essentially circular. You can't condone killing a defenseless person, yet that very act is how most criminals get on death row.

I hate abortion, but it is necessary to maintaining a sane society. If I were to transport you to a reality in which Roe vs Wade went in the opposite direction and theoretically no abortions have taken place since then, you'd be begging to come back to this reality. Either we have a mass sterilization force to make sure that people who shouldn't be having kids don't have them, or we put up with the atrocity of abortion. I'm picking the lesser of two evils.

OK, then you knowingly put all your tax dollars to feeding these monsters. I guarantee you that most against the death penalty would change their tone real quickly if they knew all their hard earned money was going to keeping John Wayne Gacy alive. I'm comfortable with my tax dollars giving them a fair trial, but once that's over and they've done the most horrifying things imaginable, take them outside the courthouse, and put a bullet between their eyes.
As I said, I'm talking about a mass atrocity with multiple witnesses where it is entirely irrefutable. OJ in another words would not be subject to my version of the death penalty. People like the Boston Bomber should be taken out back and shot immediately for this.

That's not a circular argument.
A circular argument would be like: Well, he did it, so why can't I?
That another person does something is not a valid excuse to change your morality.
"Murder is so bad, we're going to murder you."

Speaking of sane society, since Dahmer and Bundy's time society is even more atomized and isolated, more artifical, with even less emphasis on family, more availability of pornography, more glorification of violence and thrill seeking.
The factors that go into making a serial killer seem to have all gotten worse
