This guy is a REALLY good ST coach and his unit was dominant on Saturday. Our coverage units, return units and punting have all been excellent since he got here.

You could argue that he is Sumlin's second best coach behind Chavis and I never hear his name mentioned.

Props to him certainly for his coaching. Special teams looked good, especially the tackling and blocking.

I think he doesn't get as much credit because of his other role as Recruiting Coordinator. Recruiting has certainly taken a step back since Beaty held that title, at least on paper.

Major props to Banks.

And it's a shame, because while the recruiting start hasn't been as star-studded as the past couple years, I'd wager that our on-field stumbles, particularly the ineptitude on defense, had as much or more to do with that than the replacement of Beatty w/ Banks.

Beaty had the role during a period of maximum JFF momentum, eventually recruiting was going to fall back to earth no matter who was in charge.

I am a little surprised that we didn't get more early commitments on defense this year on Chavis's record alone, but I am not going to pin my made up deficiency on anyone.

The reality is that Texas's sinking ship gives us some wiggle room this season and the next for recruiting. What we really need is a win of LSU to stop the bleeding on that front.

Haha, my only fear is that UTx sinks TOO fast and the horn BMDs force a coup that wipes out Patterson, Strong, and everyone else.

And completely agree on beating LSU. We're OK if we lose to Bama but look respectable. But the LSU game is the single most important game on the schedule.

My opinion about the sips is that they always have the ability to eventually bounce back. Certain things might make it happen sooner rather than later, but they have enough money/influence to always reshuffle the deck to favor them. If a coach doesn't work they will steal someone elses, if the conference doesn't work they will move on an ruin a new one. There is no force outside of the NCAA enforcement office that could really hurt their program long-term, so I don't even bother wishing for their failure. I just enjoy it when it comes.

The program every Ag should have an eye on is OU. Despite what their fans might think they CANNOT just fix their current situation. They don't have the money to just hire any coach, or even to catch up to our facilities. They don't have the influence or political power to move to another Power 5 conference. They can't even beat us on the field to stop our rise. They completely lack control over their destiny, outside of striking lucky gold on their next coaching hire.

If we could win some SEC titles (or a single national title) while OU stinks and the Big 12 is left out of the playoffs for a few years then by the time the Big 12 GOR is over their program is dead. This evil cheating program that has sucked up all the talent that should have been ours for decades is gone for good, turned into the next Minnesota. That is what I wish for.

Actually I think Auburn is, but LSU is a close second.

I agree that UTx has much better long-term prospects than OU. Even though OU is still relatively good, with recent conference championships, 10 win seasons, and a bowl win over Bama, we're still killing them in recruiting. UTx has a much greater capacity to start winning recruiting battles against us if they right their ship. But I think that our move to the SEC has given us a chance to fundamentally change the football landscape in Texas. If UTx has to keep Strong around for another 2-3 years, I think the damage to their recruiting could be enormous, and we would be the beneficiary.

That is, if we can start contending in the SEC.

I would agree with the notion that there is enough talent in Texas to support two top 10 level programs, and that historically that has been UTx and OU. But I think we have a shot to become the clear #1 for football recruits in Texas.
