As the "r" months approach, I will be seeking oysters. I get them every year when I am in South Georgia, but have never looked for them in Gwinnett. Any suggestion on somewhere near or in Gwinnett area for quality safe oysters?
I know we have an oyster thread a while back that recommended a place down near Macon, but that's too far.

It's a long drive for you, but this my go to spot for fresh seafood. They drive their own refrigerated truck down to the gulf twice a week & pickup fresh seafood from several spots from Pensacola over to Nola & I've never been let down...
Gulf Seafood Market in Villa Rica, just call ahead & make sure they have what you want...

What kinds of seafood do you usually buy?

Sounds great but that's over an hour and a half both ways. Looking for something closer

The big farmers market in ATL has seafood vendors that truck shite in, my wife got a bunch of stuff from them a few years ago, including oysters.
You could have Square One in Athens order them for you, it's one of their services. Then you have an excuse to come spend an afternoon in Athens when you come pick them up.

I've know of a great recipe. It's insane.

He'd love the recipe. He's got a buddy that does this, and it's insane. If it weren't so much work, he'd probably do it too.

I'm in Gwinnett and I recently drove down to the Dekalb Farmer's Market and picked up some oysters. They were damned good. Also, if you read up on it, the "R Month" thingy is pretty much a myth. I bought mine in July and I didn't die.

Thanks, I may give that a try. As for the "r" month thing, that was applicable mostly before refrigeration. However oysters do spawn in the hot months, changing their texture and taste.

Looks like they sell them at the Buford Hwy Farmers Market also, which is a little closer.
