1. Arkansas
2. Georgia
3. Auburn
4. LSU
5. Alabama
6. A&M
7. Mizzou
8. Ole Miss
9. USCe
10. State
11. Kentucky
12. Tennessee
13. Florida
14. Vanderbilt
Pretty similar to the pre-spring ranking they came up with. Not much to take from this other than Tennessee's OL isn't very highly regarded for a team expected to compete for their division.
1. Arkansas
quote:
Arkansas: Bret Bielema didn’t put his line on the cover of the team’s media guide for nothing. In his program, they are the rock stars, not the skill players. And with good reason. The only starter they lose is Brey Cook, and Frank Ragnow is a more-than-capable replacement. Dan Skipper, Sebastian Tretola and Denver Kirkland all have NFL potential. The line will average just shy of 328 pounds per player.
2. Georgia
3. Auburn
4. LSU
5. Alabama
quote:.
Alabama: Alabama has what amounts to two cornerstone players in left tackle Cam Robinson and center Ryan Kelly. Robinson, though just a sophomore, is one of the most talented linemen in football. And when it comes to Kelly, you can’t discount the value of a fifth-year senior at center. But other than those two, there are question marks given the inexperience of Bradley Bozeman, Ross Pierschbacher and Dominick Jackson
6. A&M
7. Mizzou
8. Ole Miss
9. USCe
10. State
quote:
Mississippi State: The offensive line, more than anything else, should be Mississippi State's biggest concern. Not the loss of Josh Robinson at tailback and not the overhauled defense. With Ben Beckwith, Dillon Day and Blaine Clausell all gone, the offensive line is starting over. Only a pair of Justins -- Justin Malone and Justin Senior -- are back. Devon Desper and Jamaal Clayborn and Rufus Warren have varying
11. Kentucky
12. Tennessee
quote:
Tennessee: Losing Marcus Jackson with an injury was not the way to start preseason camp. Not when you allowed an SEC-worst 43 sacks a season ago. But coaches are optimistic about the line’s ability to retool thanks to its success recruiting. Freshmen Jack Jones, Charles Moseley and Drew Richmond could all make the starting lineup.
13. Florida
14. Vanderbilt

Ours (Bama's) is very much feast or famine. We have two guys who are on a lot of watch lists and All-American lists, but the rest are unknown. We could have an insanely good line by the end of the season, or two guys pulling all the weight.
So hard to tell at this time just how good we'll be on that side of the trenches. At least our left side should be pretty dang good.

Well it'd just be unfair to have a great OL when you're ranked
2 at QB
4 at RB
3 at WR
per ESPN

OL has to work for your QB, RBs, and WRs to be successful.

Will be hard for them to produce with such a shite OL.

the shitty thing is all of those depend on OL

Does the uncertainty on the line play into Saban's choice at QB?

To a large extent, that's true, and it's the big catch 22 of this offense. If they've improved even to mediocre level, that should be good enough to have a breakout year on offense. But I've seen practice highlights, and let's just say there's still a bit of work to be done. Also, having a bad OL is as bad/almost as bad as having a bad QB, and worse than having bad RB's or WR's.

Our OL needs to finish the season ranked in the top 10 of the SEC.
If that happens then our offense will have a good year and we could win 9 or 10 games.
IF they are in the bottom 2 or 3 still at the end of the year our O will struggle and we'll probably only win 7 or 8 games.

LSU has the same issue just at QB. Our OL, WR/TE, and RB/FB spots are loaded with enough exp/talent to win the SEC with the glaring exception being the QB spot.
Tenn will go as far as their OL takes them.
LSU will go as far as their QB takes them.

I'd say that's about right. The good news is we didn't give up nearly as many sacks with Dobbs. I think about 31 of the 43 sacks last year were on Worley/Peterman. Our rush yardage also went up dramatically with Dobbs in the lineup.

LSU's Oline should, and I emphasize should, be very good. Though, the same was thought last year and it took them several games to gel. Hopefully that's not the case this season.

Man...if they can find someone serviceable at QB, they are going to be damn near unstoppable. I have no confidence that Auburn can win this game at this point.

Auburn: Here’s another team without its longtime starting center. But, again, though Reese Dismukes is gone, there is a lot to like here. Shon Coleman, Devonte Danzey and Avery Young are back as starters, and Alex Kozan returns from injury. Former Ole Miss standout Austin Golson appears to be a good fit at center and Braden Smith will push for a starting job.
It implies Danzey will start and conveniently leaves out that Kozan isn't just returning but he is a returning former Freshman All-American. Kozan seems to be pulling ahead in the race slightly. The biggest issue is the final thought about Smith. He was slated first team and locked down his position early in camp.

Gotcha. I think ESPN is just being cautious at not naming Braden Smith and Alex Kozan as starters before they're actually named starters.
Mixed reports on Kozan. Last I saw was that he was trending upward so we'll see.

If that is a "not sure you're serious" pic, I'm serious. UGA scares me more than any team on the schedule. But I probably have some brain damage from watching that arse-raping last year, so there's that.
I mean, we point at guys like Mark Ingram and say "yeah but he only put up numbers because of that awesome O-Line"...and we point at guys like Marcus Lattimore and say "imagine what he could have done with a great O-Line". It's not often that you see a great back, and I believe Chubb will be in the D-Mac, Emmitt Smith conversation, WITH a great OL. If he stays healthy, he is going to have a f****ing monster year...particularly if they have a respectable threat of a passing game.
I think it will go better for Auburn this year, but at the end of the day, I wouldn't bet on Auburn in the game. My spidey senses are telling me they are going to punch us in the mouth again.
