i just got a new job in Bham and I need a few things.
1. I have an iphone 6 that needs an AU background.
2. I have dual monitors on my computer that has a 1920x1080 resolution that needs a panorama shot of the stadium.
3. I work near the airport and need a place to live. Recommendations would be nice.
War Eagle. Rewards will come in the form of beer at Avondale.

Rent or purchase?
Your life is going to be hell working near the airport when they begin tearing down the interstate that goes through downtown 'ham

as far as a place to live, there are some really nice apartments that just got built over in the Avondale area. The complex is called The Avondale by Kahn Properties. They are really inexpensive right now as they are just opening. Definitely worth looking into.

Rent for now. And I know absolutely nothing about this town.

Avondale is downtown. Quick drive onto Red Mtn. Expressway so it won't take you long to get to work. It is an up and coming area. Lots of young people are living over there. Couple of good Bars and restaurants that you will be within walking distance to, as well as Avondale Brewery (don't like their beer but the venue is cool).
I live in the Southside area and have been in bham my whole life. If you need any help with anything, let me know.

I lived and worked in Birmingham for a while I completed a degree in Tuscaloosa. My best friend lives in Avondale now and he's had mixed reviews. Great, up and coming area but police presence has been kinda dismal still and there's some real poverty in some surrounding neighborhoods that tend to lead toward petty theft crimes and break-in's. I deal with that where I live in Savannah now since it's sorta on the fringe of the historic district.
But overall I think you'd feel fine living there and it's as safe as anywhere in Birmingham. I stay there when I visit and we freely walk from 41st street at all hours without a worry.
If you're single and not purchasing then I would definitely live in the highlands area of Birmingham. There's a grocery store and plenty of bars in the lakeview/southside area that are nearby. I lived in homewood but going over the mountain would add unnecessary time to your commute.

Tarrant or East Lake are the only good answers here.

How close to the airport are you?

Agreed here. The place is recommended is kind of in between Avondale and here, so it is on the nicer side of Avondale. The only real problem areas of Avondale are if you get too far Northeast.
ETA: Really anything you find in the Highlands Park area would be a good location. Young crowd, easy access to Hwy 280. Rojo

Anywhere on Southside area you should be within 10 min of the airport if you go through Avondale and take the Airport Express or whatever that road is called.
I rent a 3BR Craftsman house in Highland Park (about 2 blocks from the site of the first Iron Bowl) for $1k/mo. The airport is less than 10 min away through Avondale, probably about the same using the highways but they get clogged at rush hours.
I couldn't more highly suggest Highland Park, its the best neighborhood for young single folks in Bham.

Here's the map I'd go off of. The folks that live in the Avondale area may have a better line on the areas than I drew

I do too. It is also very accurate
That circle around 2nd Ave N
So many good restaurants and bars right there. El Barrio (get the Chorizo meatloaf), The Collins Bar, Paramount (arcade bar), Carrigan's

Live in Hoover. But cant really help you with places to stay downtown. I would go with what GoCrazy suggested. I still would like a reward of an Avondale Saison. TIA

A single guy like yourself will want to live downtown somewhere. You could look around Trussville, though. Quick drive to the airport. But I would rent one of the downtown lofts, or an apartment around UAB. I don't like to drive. Plenty of women to chase, and you can catch some Barons games.
