I am continually amazed by the mob reactions of folks. None more so than this most recently knee-jerk - "let's kill this mfer" reaction to the killing of this supposed "pet lion" that just happened to be roaming free around the savanna in Zimbabwe, Africa.

Disclaimer: I am a huge hunter - there, it's out there now. And, I will admit i don't necessarily agree with the trophy hunting of endangered species - especially the way in which this guy took the animal (bait & wait vs. stalking, calling, etc.). But this reaction has gone completely off the reservation.

This guy's life, livelihood, business, family, etc. are in complete ruins now because he killed this lion. Where is this outrage when a baby is killed in its crib via a stray gang bullet or where is the outrage that hunger and poverty are still rampant in this country or any of the other atrocities that occur right here in our own backyards on a daily basis that I, frankly speaking, find infinitely more disturbing than the death of a lion.

The guy paid for a guided hunt. Went to Africa. Met his guide. Went out in the woods. Guide found the lion for him and killed the thing. I genuinely believe that he didnt think he'd done anything wrong. I know LOTS of folks who've taken elephant and water buffalo and cheetah and other exotics over there - happens all the time. So why this complete insanity??

I don't get it man. I hear those they said the guy has poached over here and isn't a 100% stand-up guy 100% of the time, but good grief. Our value systems are so perverted in this country. The bleeding hearts out there weep for the animals but ignore the plight of their fellow man. I just don't get it....

Anyone else want to tell all these folks to STFU and get some goddamn perspective? Jesus.

1.3 million (MILLION!) babies murdered by abortion in the US, and people are up in arms about a lion in Africa.

There are 7.5 billion fricking people on this planet including this a-hole who has to kill (not take) a beautiful animal to get a hard on. A century ago there were 200,000 lions on the African continent. Today that number is under 30,000.

I hope someone wounds him and then tracks him for 40 hours before putting a bullet in his head, and then skins and decapitates him.

its funny they(gubment and citizens) have no problem with handing out permits and promoting the big game/lion hunting until one of their marketing/advertising tools was taken away.

It's the illegal way he went about it, the damn guide knew wtf he was doing, and the fact this dick head hunter (I'm a hunter as well) had done this kinda shite before. What I'm pissed off about is that this hurts legit hunters and opens the door to more lowlife poachers.

The most amazing thing to me about it is the dude paid 50k to go hunting. We had this convo earlier at work and during it I found out that I actually know some folks (not closely but still...) that do this type of thing too. I'm not even trying to criticize but it's just shocking to me that people would pay that for that.

Good points. Hell, just look at the genocide/civil war that's gone on in Africa for decades but a lion causes more uproar. Our priorities our fricked and it goes to show how easy it is for media (especially social media) to control the masses and narrative.

I'm not a fan of trophy hunting and before someone tells me, I know they donate the meat to local tribes. I still don't agree with it. But people proposing to kill this dude over a dead lion is completely insane.

I see your point but I still think the guy is a piece of shite. And I think trophy hunting is borderline psychopathic. And I hunt.

He deserves all the scorn and backlash he's getting.

I'm an avid hunter as well. He gives hunting a bad name. Frick him.

I don't think enough is being done to stop poachers in certain pockets of the world, however, in this case people are going too far with their attack on this guy. Should he be fined, hell yes, but he shouldn't be receiving threats and having to worry about his livelihood.

It's absolutely rediculous. People care more about some lion in Africa than the thousands killed here every day.

So to combat the attention being given to this story, you start a thread about it and spend an afternoon talking about it..

I don't understand animal rights people.

I think trophy hunting is shitty, and I think endangered species should be protected, but I don't understand the crazy response to this lion's death.

Fry that sumbitch up and I'd eat him.

That lion was 13 years old has anyone considered the possibility of suicide?

Maybe dude just wanted to go out while he was still on top any way you look it beats getting tossed out and watching another lion bang your hens while you slowly starve to death.

Now he's a martyr forever....

Problem is, Cecil was lured away from his protected habitat in order to kill him. Now, I might have said this was an accident by the dentist if not for the fact that he has a felony record for doing the exact same thing with a black bear in the states. He lured the bear away from its protected home and killed it, then lied to the wildlife officials about doing so. He was caught lying, confessed to the truth, was convicted of a felony, paid something like $3000 in fines and served a year of probation.

Also, this lion had a tracking device around its neck. Did he somehow not notice this when he, after shooting it with a crossbow and allowing it to suffer for 40 hours, not notice the tracking device when he returned to shoot it? Or when he beheaded it?

He is scum and if he did nothing wrong, then he'd have answered to Zimbabwe's officials by now who have stated they wish to talk to him. Instead, he has basically gone into hiding like the cowardly little bitch that he is. /rant

He's a coward like most other trophy hunters, but people need to let this go. I mean these are the type of guys that won't fight without a firearm, or an insurmountable advantage, so they're to be pitied for their chicken shite nature. Everyone would like to kick him in the head, but enough is enough, Cecil is gone. Let's move on.

I agree, it's reminiscent of the Muslim/terrorist propaganda that gets put out there.

There was absolutely zero reason for that POS to kill that lion. I hope he gets extradited back to Zimbabwe to face his crimes.
