They really and truly are. One is just a bit more faux religious than the other.

Les might not be the college football version of Wile E Coyote, super genius, but his ability to think outside the box wins LSU their share of games.
More importantly the guy has a first class temperament. All college fan bases are demanding and LSU more so then most. To his credit Miles navigates the high and lows of the program better then just about any other coach I've seen.

I will never argue that point. He is great with the press, great with his players, and great with his bosses. My point is that he is not a great gameday manager. One only needs to look at a certain Ole Miss and a Tennessee game to smell what I'm cookin', eh?

I agree, both good coaches and even better people.Unfortunately in this league it takes a bit of an a-hole to have the edge.

All too true.

Good but not great. Not a tier 1 coach like Saban or Meyer.
He helped turn around a shitty OSU program and has had a great run here. Unfortunately for him he'll always be compared to Saban.
Yep. There is some saying about never wanting to be the man who follows The Man. That's exactly what Miles did and he did it better than anyone could have hoped. I think if he picks up a few wins against Saban in the next few years and maybe wins another title (in 2016 he'll have a legit contender), I think people will hold him in the same regard the did from 2005-2007.

better than Jimmy Johnson who had Thurman Thomas & Barry Sanders.
Uh, no.

exactly, in fact he's a lot like Pinkel,,
Mizzou fans who want to know what Pinkel would be like with better players, need only look at Miles.

That truly is unfortunate. The man is a top 5-7 cfb coach and gets so little respect from some of the LSU fanbase. I guess they will see how hard it is to do what he has done when he hangs up the hat.

Les is going to have to beat Alabama with some consistency or he will be moving on like Charlie Mac. Great coach or not. History of success or not. Win or start packing.

I'd say top 10 maybe, he does a lot right, and yes, very difficult to replace him.

I think Les is a great coach. Sometimes I think he may be to loyal or stick with a player to long but what coach doesn't?
Les is a winner and seems to be a stand up guy.

I think he get another title and two division titles before he retires. He will go down as the GOAT LSU coach.

To those saying Miles or Pinkel or any SEC coach does not "know" football is just retarded.
Reminds me of some poster mentioning Cover 4, with zero knowledge.
All these guys know football like nobodies business. Some execute better, recruit better, manage better, hire better, etc. but they all know the game. No fan will ever understand a small fraction of what guys know that have dedicated entire lifetimes to the game

He's at a top 5 job where 9-10 wins should be your worst year. He's great at managing the program and keeping it from completely collapsing Texas style, but he lacks the "it" factor that coaches like Saban and Meyer have. There's something missing that keeps LSU from taking the next step. Remember, his only national title came from the only two loss team to ever be fortunate enough to play in a national title game since national title games were an actual thing. If WVU beats Pitt, Miles would have likely been fired by now.

thanks for playing, you win the "clueless" poster of the day..
you don't seem to know what "know" football is.

right because no fan has ever done anything as remotely sophisticated as stand on a field and watch players play a game...
