he wasn't the only defensive recruiter.

So the whole staff also neglected these areas? Sounds like a bigger problem to me

Y'all have said Chavis just flat out didn't recruit while at LSU, so who is to blame for the empty pipeline?

Yeah, it was one of the other coaches' fault that Chavis' primary recruiting area is now thin.

Chavis and Brick fricked LSU's depth in the front 7.

LSU without Chavis- 2 National Championship wins since '03

LSU with Chavis- 0 Naional Championship wins in total.

Chavis is the best DC LSU has had in my lifetime. Fact. But the point is that LSU does not need Chavis to win, as proven above. Have a great day everyone.

Well according to the rant, we're on the decline. Does that mean A&M's threshold is akin to the lowest point in recent history for LSU football? Sad if so.

Some of these posts are very contradicting.

I understand this might be hard for you to understand, but there are other coaches besides the DC. Those coaches also have the capacity to recruit. It is very possible for those coaches to be good enough at recruiting to account for the lack of recruiting by Chavis.

Muschamp? Pelini? Chavis was not the best you've seen.

You say steele is a downgrade but yesterday on 104.5 espn radio in Baton Rouge Connor Neigbor's (played for LSu) dad who played at Alabama and had a son that played at Alabama for Saban basically said Steele was Nick Saban's dc not Kirby Smart. Smart just had the title. Also if you read the interview with Ragland they think very highly of Steele.

The depth to which you Aggies will go for approval and acceptance is disturbing. Do you not have anything better to do?

Why did he demote Steele then?

Fair. But I was younger for those and didn't understand football like I do now.

Look, Chavis is great at what he does. Wonderful DC all around. He is a terrible recruiter, and managed to utilize the players that other coaches recruited. It worked well for us to an extent.

The point I was making is that LSU has proven it can win without him. For folks to call it "slightly better recruiting" is hysterical, and they clearly don't follow recruiting; at least LSU recruiting. We are clearly recruiting much better with Steele and O at the moment, without O even having a year under his belt at LSU to prove what he can with a line.

A&M came out great and LSU came out great. Not being a homer. I have full confidence Steele can utilize the talent LSU has on defense. Numerous future 1st round picks on this D.

No didnt say that because we all know saban is in charge of the defense. The facts are is that Saban has hired Steele 3 times for a reason. The guy has been part of several championship teams. Everybody wants to look back at the Orange Bowl against West Virginia. Clemson had 2 pick 6's and and West virginia had 35 points off of turnovers. west Virginia had 600 yards of offense against Clemson. West Virginia had 546 against Chavis's LSU defense the same year.

The super elite 2010-12 defense wasn't recruited under him,

We've been blessed to have an elite recruiter as our db coach. We've been blessed to have frank Wilson land some random defensive studs during chavis' tenure here like beckwith.

Chavis hasn't recruited a single nfl caliber player to lsu in his time here, not a single one.

Let that sink in, it's deep.

More championships than 1 loss seasons, which is what matters.

I'm not spinning anything. Chavis is a great DC. But if you think LSU will be lost without him then you're a victim of wishful thinking, at best.
