It's all good.
I feel like we're mutating and destroying knowledge and logic as we go. Maybe that's just my inner curmudgeon yelling at kids as they cut across my corner lot.

No. I see that too.
My strong hand usually believes we're degenerating.

I've said before that the hippies were railing against basically the same thing as the John Birch Society. Media draws these cultural lines and portrays groups in a certain way. We see the same thing now with The Tea Party Movement and Occupy Wall Street. One is portrayed as racist redneck religious crazies and the other as unwashed lazy hipsters who don't want to get a job. But I talk to normal, non-conspiracy theorist type people and they can see very quickly they have a lot in common. We have many foibles that they exploit, and one of them is that once a group or person is branded with other-ness, critical thinking stalls and the message is lost. And of course they're co-opted and subverted as you said. Charles Manson was the final propaganda tool, probably got MK-ULTRA'd.

When Occupy was a thing I waisted a lot of time online trying to explain the similarities to the Tea Party, and how easily the media brands two groups with the same major goals as polar opposites.
Divide and conquer.
John Birch Group, another nugget I wasn't aware of. Thanks.
Grateful for the term Hegelian dialectic. I've been hitting on that concept for awhile, it's kind of like finally putting a face with a name.

I've come to the conclusion that Missouri fans are pussies
Posted on 7/8/15 at 3:19 pm to Stir of Echoes
In addition to being huge pussies, they have a tendency to blame all their failures on anything and everything except themselves. It's the fault of mommie and daddie, boomers, society, anyone with more money than me, etc.

Not wise use of a stored alter.

You'll get a lot of downvotes but not intelligent debate with that line.

Are we supposed to intelligently debate with his strawman?
Posted on 7/8/15 at 3:50 pm to Patton
Straw man or not, most of the talking points involve blaming somebody else for the things they don't like in their own life.
Besides you don't fall under the millennial scope based on your posting.

I'd rather work with somebody my age who I already know is a pussy than some 45 year old guy that complains about everything while pretending he's not a pussy.

A generation Xer smarted off to me Saturday night at the bar and I, a millennial, knocked him the frick out in one punch.
Then proceeded to barrel over the security guy and rush out the door and haul arse before the cops got there.
A few of is still have balls, but ya my generation really does suck

Your fake country music video stories about girls in daisy dukes hanging out in the back of your truck are more believable.

How old do you think he is?
Posted on 7/8/15 at 6:06 pm to Sleeping Tiger
the greatest generation almost starved to death from famine and depression before winning the biggest war in history.
I would take ONE of them over any 10 gen-x/mellinials.

Said every generation about the younger generation
Posted on 7/8/15 at 6:18 pm to 3nOut
I think categorizing an entire generation as one that "blames others" is a little ignorant and shortsighted.

While people are a product of their time, it's noteworthy to mention the racism, bigotry, religious hoo-hahness, homophobia, and narrow mindedness toward nearly everything.
They couldn't raise a generation at all -- which might have something to do with their overall low level of education and literacy, and their dehumanized nature which made their aptitude for feeling and loving low. They were more a generation of duty, not love. That sentence requires some unpacking.
They benefited from a destroyed world. America was an easy King.
They perpetuated the welfare state, and are still huge grabbers of financial help.
Infrastructure was built with tomorrows money.
They were overall very submissive. Gave no resistance to anything. They went with the government, the news, the 'man'.
Brokaw coined the phrase to make warm fuzzies. To sell books. And sell the wipe-out of histories pre history.
*I'm an old movie buff. TCM is my number one channel. I like the mystic and wholesomeness of that time. But it's pretty incomplete to call them the greatest. I guess it does feel good.
