keep the money in state

this is a fantastic argument, but doesn't it make more sense to get the money from out-of-state and bring it in state, then just recycle it around in the state. Isn't it better for the state of Alabama to cash checks coming from Tennessee Florida Mississippi Georgia Louisiana, rather than Alabama?

Eh, also don't get the travel costs really when playing in state as much.
UAB if they are able to field another team, will make more money playing MSU/UGA/FLA and than they will playing Bama. They'll need all the money they can scratch together to get that program back on track.

I like playing old SWC teams who never made the jump

once the damn JerryWorld deal is done I wouldn't mind doing a home and home w/a left out SWC team every single year. (preferably SMU for as long as I live in Dallas )

Tim Brando ?@TimBrando 2h2 hours ago
Bill Clark told me last fall,"I solicited help from Nick Saban and while visiting his office he got Bryant Jr. on the phone" Jr. denied the call.

They know each other. Saban offered Clark a job when he first got to UA. They also coach in the same system.

Somewhat, yes. He figured Saban could get stuff done. Shows you who has the power though.

Will Bama fans still deny that Bear Jr was behind killing UAB football?

Do you think he'll have an aneurysm when he sees the Blazers run back on the field?

Is this the first time in his life his daddy's name couldn't get him what he wanted?

Honestly, the board probably got most of what they wanted.

1. UAB imposed the death penalty on itself. The football team will not be even decent for most likely 4 years at a minimum.

2. The program will now not get a dime of university money.

They've gotten more publicity from this than they've ever had and when they return there will be hype. Could end up being a good thing in the long term.

So how is the program returning?

Supporters raised nearly 30 million dollars. Hard to turn down 30 million dollars when you say you cut the program because of a projected 3 million dollar annual deficit.

Bama does not play UAB for the same reason Texas does not play UTSA or Arkansas does not play Arkansas State. You get nothing out of it. If Bama plays Arkansas State then Bama is in the media in Arkansas all week. Bama is going to be in the media all week in Birmingham whether they play UAB or not. If Arkansas plays UAB then Arkansas is mentioned in Birmingham media all week.

So it was a money issue, as Watts said before, and once the money issue was resolved the program is returning. Exactly my point

UAB beat Saban when he was at LSU with an SEC championship team.

He scared.

The numbers were skewed in the original report and there were simple math errors in it. The 3 million stated is the higher end of one of the two newer reports.

There is also plenty of evidence that the program was already going to be killed before the report was even finished, so no it really wasn't due to numbers. But when you say it is killed due to money you can't then turn around and not reinstate it especially after one of the biggest PR embarrassments in Alabama history. You also don't kill something without even hitting your donors up. And no, they didn't ask anyone for chit and didn't consult anyone.

They gave the death penalty to a program that would've had money raised for it anyways and made themselves look terrible in the eyes of the nation.
