Heck, the Miami 2001 defense forced 25 more turnovers than the 2011 Alabama defense.

Cool stat bro.

The Alabama defense allowed a 24% opponent third down conversion percentage, 72 rushing yards per game, a 2.4 YPC average, and 3 rushing TDs.

We can both arbitrarily select favorable statistics.

Producing turnovers =/= elite defense
Preventing the team from scoring = elite defense

Plus, 2001 Big East was a JOKE.

Which makes Alabama all the more impressive. They dominated everyone without a fluky turnover margin. That defense was historically great, especially considering offenses now are so much better than they were several decades ago.

2001 Miami was a better overall team, but 2011 Alabama had as good of a defense as anyone. That team kicked the shite out of everyone they played. They had one close loss vs LSU and turned in one of the great defensive performances ever in the rematch.
