KJ Walton is in town and I've seen where he is expected to commit. He's a SG.
Can someone explain to me the construction of the roster and why we are taking another guard instead of a big? KA isn't going to have a very long leash and he's got to show some improvement this year. I don't see much with as weak as we are going to be in the block next year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only player above 6'8" is going to be Rosburg.
What is he doing?

We got that 6'9 Juco center, but even then nothing promising for our PF/C spots.

GANT, WOODS AND ROSBURG. We're going small because we don't have an option. I'm sure KA would love a 6 11 big that can score, but so does every other coach in the country. I think they might see Walton as being talented enough to take his commitment. If it were a lower level player they stay away.

Basketball is guard dominated. Just look at the NC game, it was the play of Duke's guards that won this game.
If the returning guards develop this offseason, then Mizzou can be better next year.

Guards are huge, but I went back and looked at teams in the national championship games, I think maybe even the Final Fours for the last 5 years or so and nearly every team had a serviceable big guy. Doesn't mean they were the focus of the offense, but they had them.
Having said that, no problem giving KA time to find and develop big men. IMO, people keep talking about Gant. Unless he drastically changes his game, he is not big man. He plays more like a stretch 4 instead of someone you can kick the ball into on the inside. And he struggled defending inside. He might play the spot, but not what I envision when I say big man.

Agree Gant isn't a real big, but they will need to rebound by committee and he def has the size to do that. One thing thats underrated imo is having guards that can rebound. Denmon used to love to crash the boards. I see Teki having the ability to do that a bit.

I've read Woods is closer to 6'7 than 6'9.

Talented recruit.
Let's see what happens.

I love guards that rebound. I think we have some that can.

Is he? I know nothing about him. The only thing I read is that he compares to Tiller. Not much of a shooter or scorer but a legitimate defender. Accurate or no?

He is a composite 4*. Admittedly, I don't follow hoops recruiting much but that would seem to suggest he's pretty talented.

Looks very athletic. Seems to be more of a slasher than a shooter. But he looks to have the ball handling to actually get to the rim. Seems our guys last year didn't quite have the quickness or handling to get to the rim. Kid seems to be able to finish too. I really like his tape.
I'm still in the boat that we can't afford to have Rosburg playing 15 minutes a game though.

I'm with ya, and he'll probably play 20+

200 man minutes in a game (40 minute game x 5 players). It will be interesting to see how the PT breaks out.
Isabell - 15
Phillips - 10
Clark - 30
Teki - 25
Payne - 20
Walton - 20
Wright - 10
Gant - 15
Allen - 15
Woods - 25
Rosburg - 15
VanLeer - 0
Puryear - 0
Certainly no exact science, but just trying to gauge who's gonna see time. I'd think Wright, Gant and Allen would see more time but if they do, who gets less? I would have thought the incoming recruits would be good enough to contribute, but if they do, again, someone else's minutes get cut. Whose?

I would put Gant & Woods at 25 apiece then Allen & Rosburg at 15.
Also would switch Walton & Wrights minutes.
Buts it's really hard to guess as Clark is the only one to prove that he deserves minutes.

Wright played almost 20 minutes a game and is their 3 rd leading returning scorer. Issabell is a ? Mark. Come to think of it there are many question marks. We'll see who put in the work to get stronger and step up their game.

Gant needs to get in the weight room. And I would imagine he has been there all off season. I saw him defend well in the post at times but he needs to get stronger there is no doubt about that. But I do feel like he can do so.

I just don't see this working out. All the best teams have an 8-9 man rotation. 10+ and you simply don't get into a flow with your teammates.

You're right about that.
Rosburg and Woods will play. They're our only legit bigs.
Have to believe Clark/Teki/Gant will play. That's 5.
Would think the JUCO Payne would play. That's 6.
KA seems to love Allen. That's 7.
Isabell/Phillips/Walton/Wright fighting for that 8th and 9th spot?
ETA - Can't believe I just called Rosburg legit. I think y'all know what I mean though.
