where did this go down?

I still do not understand the need to change it. Stupid move if you ask me.

Rudder plaza / MSC mainly...Walked military walk for awhile too.
Hundreds of people supported in on social media, only three had the balls to hold signs and yell.

this is one of, if not the, dumbest "protests" I've ever heard of.
This is the change. It doesn't affect anyone's daily life but is a branding change. It's a complete no-brainer

It's not about the seal it's about the BoR going against the wishes of students and alumni in multiple different areas.

I think its a stupid change. I hate that the block ATM with the wrong bevel is our logo. It seems like a pointless change for the sake of change. Our seal looked classic, very A&M. Now, not so much.

I'm an alum. But it's not their job to obey my wishes. It's their job to do what's best for Texas A&M

this is the problem people really have with it, not the change. But that's a branding issue and the average person honestly isn't very good at branding and their opinions are often counterproductive. Our logo is literally studied by others as a branding home run.

It absolutely is not pointless. The t-star is not distinctive enough and we are putting it out to pasture. You may think it looks "classic" but it's not our mark and it's bad branding to keep using it in some places
Texas A&M has had a massive branding problem over the years. We've sucked at it. Now that we've gotten really good, people hate change and fight it. Luckily people like Jason Cook get it and ignore the silly arguments over bevels and t-star, etc.

Well they must not study very hard becuase the bevel doesn't make sense. The spacing is poor & its imcomplete (should be more bevel). I would be just fine with it, if it made sense.

I can agree with this. I'm fine with most the changes, but our seal is something that has been how it is for years and years. Its like changing the Aggie ring. There is no block ATM there.

By the university's own guidelines the Seal is not used as a branding mark. It is very limited in its use. On top of that very few schools' seals match or even have much in common with the branding/sports logos. It just seems pointless to change something that actually does have connection with other parts of traditional Aggie items. The 5 pointed star is even in our values/mission statement as a visual reminder. Heck it is even on the ring. That tie to me is more important than a branding issue.

yeah, see that's my point. The average thought on branding is absolutely counterintuitive. You're looking too hard at it if you are discussing the faults. The faults are what make it a great mark. A mark is about identity, not form

This is another example of an excellent change

The pizza hut change does make sense though. They kept a rendition of the iconic past branding ( the z's and the flag on the H. Albeit in a different style) They also incorporated the Japanese minimalist artistic style into it and gave it some motion/life. The seal change just looks like change for change sake. While actually breaking connections to other parts of the school experience.

I think this action is a bizarre conflagration of the academic and athletic sides of the University.
It is understandable that academic symbols do not function well as "brands" but I would argue that athletic logos do not function well as authoritative symbols for institutions.
For me, even if the block aTm were not beveled, I would still disagree with the change. They should have totally redesigned the thing rather than this.
My 0.02.

Damn not having any classes over there any more

the red roof is not PH's original logo. I was talking about the beveling crap. This is their original logo. And like the T-star, they don't put it on anything any more.
When you change logos completely, you remove all remnants of the old. Because the people in charge weren't very good at this, we didn't phase out the T-star when we made the decision to retire it. We simply left it in some places making branding very inconsistent. The last few years we've finally begun cleaning that up
We are only using the block and the state logo now. The University should use one of those two for everything
