What should the campus master plan look like?

The university needs to look into expanding the Library, but unfortunately they are landlocked with so many buildings surrounding it. What are your thoughts on building a new library where the current Tad Pad sits? It could have a similar look and feel to the law school and be more accessible to parking and people coming from off campus. Then the business school could take advantage of that space for more classrooms and offices.

That is not a terrible idea.
They could just utilize the space in the library by continuing to move rarely used books to the annex across from the Thad Cochran Center (right near the athletics offices). When I worked for the library in the summer of 2011, we moved books to the annex and there was a ton of space available over there. This is more of a temporary solution to a permanent problem, however.
Perhaps they could add another level to JD Williams? If anything, keeping the library and building a second library is a better idea. Alabama has eight libraries on their campus (yes, I realize that some of them are specialized). Maybe specializing the secondary library for the largest school in the University would be an adequate solution?
I wonder if the space where the Chi Psi house was will ever be utilized?

The Union needed to be upgraded a long time ago.
I hope to god that every upgrade we make is done in some sort of classical architectural style instead of the atrocious modernist bullshite that plagues the Union.
The modernists really hit a home run with literature. Architecture? Ehh, not so much.

Renovations to the union and Turner will be nice.
There is a ton of construction taking place on All-American Drive at the moment. Once it is all finished, that side of campus is going to look very nice. Coulter renovations, Thad Cochran (pharmacy) expansion, The Pavilion, and NEZ expansion will all add to the appearance of that stretch of campus.

Agreed. I really wish about 10 years ago, when they began renovations to the former physical plant to build our athletic administration building, they decided to tear down both buildings and start over. They could have built a brand new structure as part of the north end zone and cleaned up that area. That corner of All American right across from Thad Cochran before you hit University would have been a great spot for a parking garage (to satisfy both academic and athletic interests with access points at both All American and Ford Blvd). Then put all electrical wiring underground and renovate or tear down the engineering building and the warehouse across from VHS and you are really cleaning up an eyesore on campus.
We are getting very close to making UM a great campus, but there are still a few items missing to make it perfect.

Agreed. Renovations are always going to be taking place, but updating the Student Union, Turner, and blowing up Tad Smith will do wonders.

I believe they have a few years to begin building a house or their lease on the land will run up. As of now, I don't think they have the numbers to do that. It's not really enough space to do anything with, not even really enough for them to build a house.
The library idea is great. During test weeks JD WIlliams is impossible to find a spot in.

I still think putting a Starbucks in the library was the worst decision ever. It is slammed every time I go in there and clogs up traffic outside of it.
I agree it needs to be expanded, BAD. And there's plenty of room to do so IMO.

Coulter is going to get a new eatery I think

That makes no sense to me. You have The Union right across The Grove and Einstein Bros right up the street.

Not to mention there is about to be a 20 million dollar STEM building between Thad and Anderson right there

Anybody remember the plans for the research park that was going across the highway where the Whirlpool trails are now? Looked nice, wonder what happened to that. I would imagine eventually the university expanded either across the highway or across Jackson where the old walmart is. That's really big picture though

Turner needs to be torn down and rebuilt.
It's is terrible. I spent my final 2 years pretty much ONLY having class in there and it's just God awful from a classroom perspective and terrible as a recreational facility. (Minus the racquetball that shite is tight)

I don't even want to begin to think about the process of moving all those books.
Nevermind, see that you were talking about the union expansion.

Hume and Shoemaker need serious work. As well as the ROTC buildings. Crosby needs a face lift as well, similar to what they did to Stockard and Martin, not to mention Kincannon.
