I demand that the correct statement be posted in the OP

Statement from Bill Battle, Director of Athletics
After spending all week in negotiations with Coach Gregg Marshall to be the next University of Alabama Basketball Head Coach, President Bonner and myself felt it was in the best interest of the University and the program to stop all negotiations. We feel Coach Marshall is a premiere coach but wasn't a good fit for where we want to head as a basketball program.
We will be continuing our coaching search and confident we will bring in the right coach to lead Alabama basketball to a successful future. Roll Tide to all of our fans.

OP updated with new names being floated around AD

Archie Miller would be a home run we should all support. Prohm won't win the press conference, but is a quality candidate. If we hire Pitino the AD should be fired, Pitino's contract should be bought out, and the new AD should pick someone else.

Richard Patio would be a slam dunk

Alabama Athletics@UA_Athletics Statement from Bill Battle, Director of Athletics
We are pleased to announce Coach Steve Prohm as the next Head Coach of the University of Alabama Basketball team. I hope everyone will welcome Coach Prohm to the Alabama Nation and get ready for some real exciting basketball at the Capstone.

I've wanted Miller all along.

He has never coached college before. I wonder how that would work out.

The delusion iof bama basketball fans is starting to surpass Arkansas football fans.
The idea that Avery Johnson was some great player and coach in the NBA is laughable. He averaged 8 points a game as a player. As a coach, he went to the finals 1 time, but he was either eliminated in the first round or missed the playoffs totally every other year

UPDATE #10 (8:30PM 4/2) New names surfacing in coaching search... According to someone with AD ties, the names being floated around today were: Archie Miller (Dayton) Avery Johnson (O RLY?) Steve Prohm (shoot me) I expect some new names to pop up here and there over the next week or so. If we're left with someone like Steve Prohm or Richard Pitino, we might as well burn it to the ground and start over.
What about Chuck Person?

Johnson would be a terrible hire as would Prohm. Oh well, the SEC can still count on Alabama basketball as being average at best

SUNDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE (12:20PM, 4/5)
*** We are hearing from both sides that the initial meeting went very well.
*** According to source close to Johnson, he wants the job. He "loves the thought of recruiting, competing at the college level and sees building the Alabama program back as a great opportunity."
*** He also added that Johnson "no longer wanted to be in the booth." He is great with kids and would excel as a recruiter.
*** We expect Alabama to formalize an offer as early as this afternoon. There are multiple reports that Johnson and Alabama are expected to talk again later this afternoon. We are hearing from very reliable sources that Battle was very impressed with Johnson. This is a fluid situation, but it has become very clear that both Alabama and Johnson are aligned in their intent.
NO BUYOUT. Grant was unfireable because of his ridiculous contract. Johnson should not be making a dime more than 2 mil/year with his resume
