ESPN: Taylor Arrest Exposes Alabama

At a time when the NFL and other pro sports have increased their awareness about domestic violence, following high-profile incidents involving Ray Rice and others, Alabama took a foolish chance on Taylor for one reason. After watching Ohio State's offensive line push around his defensive line in a 42-35 loss in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff, Saban wanted to make sure it didn't happen again.
So Alabama signed Taylor. If Taylor had managed to stay out of trouble -- and, oh, avoid criminal convictions and prison time for his previous arrests in Georgia -- he might have immediately bolstered the Crimson Tide's defensive front.
Make no mistake: Alabama's decision wasn't about rehabilitation and second chances. It was about winning, and now the Crimson Tide look like big losers -- from the top down. It's not like Alabama is Louisville, where Cardinals coach Bobby Petrino seems to take any SEC reject as he tries to build his program. The Crimson Tide have the pick of the litter when it comes to recruiting. For whatever reason, they chose a troubled prospect with fleas.

Well, I'm not much of a fan of the author but he makes a good point. There was only one reason for a program like AL to take Taylor. That reason wasn't to provide a kid a second chance.

Mark is gonna be jealous of the lack of control.

Does this mean we will stop getting 5* recruits and winning the conference?

What other SEC programs recruited him coming from the JUCO? Anyone know?

This isn't news. Winning is the only reason Saban does anything. Why even write this article?
Saban's approach is purely based on winning and he does what he has to do to win. Why is that a surprise?

No, but it means the next guy might get some Karma sanctions to go with a loaded roster. Better enjoy the Saban years.....

What are we going to get sanctioned for?

OK. Here's the beef:
Today's college football players are a bit different from those who played when Harvard was winning national championships. In order to remain competitive my school and your school need young men whose testicles secrete more testosterone than the national average. Peoples genetically predisposed to produce more testosterone tend to grow up bigger, stronger, and faster. They're also more aggressive. Men with more testosterone tend to be more inclined toward success in football, libido, hirsuitism, aggression, and crime.
That it's looking like maybe an inordinate amount of NFL players are also wife and girlfriend beaters is probably NOT a mere coincidence.
"May you get what you want" is an ancient Chinese curse. "You get what you pay for" is the fricking gospel.

I don't think it ever is about that in college football.

Is it? There have been a few in the news lately but the overwhelming majority of players have not been arrested for DV.
Would be interested to know how the percentage of NFL players arrested for it compared to the general population
