Here is the statement from the Ole Miss Alumni Association regarding Dan Jones. Oh they mad.

This seems messy.

Hopefully it gets messier. There's no reason Ole Miss shouldn't decide who it's chancellor is. Not a board that oversees 7 other schools.

I don't understand why a non-ole miss entity gets to decide who is chancellor.

Agreed. I graduated from Ole Miss then moved away, so I'm not exactly privy to the politics of it all, but I hate that.

I'm not necessarily upset with us getting another chancellor but I agree that Ole Miss should decide who is and isn't our chancellor.

I'm not well informed about the role of the IHL in the state, but why does the university have to take orders from them? Are they some sort of oversight committee, or do they direct funding?

Khayat makes a very valid point about running the Med Center. They have done some great things there over the past 6 years and actually become one few State run academic centers in the US to turn a profit. The limits of The State purchasing laws (basically enacted to acquire backhoes and paper clips not cutting edge medical technology) along with the IHL oversight (anything over $250K has to be approved by them and is basically a 2 year process.....not cool if the new technology can save someone's life) have made moving the facility forward extremely difficult.
Long story short, I question the usefulness of the IHL Board anymore. It seems it's sole purpose is to ensure all State schools are equally mediocre instead of allowing individual institutions to flourish!

This is the equivalent of the executive branch of government enforcing regulations on the public in order to usurp the law makers.
Look what has happened to UAB because those empowered are making decisions for one university to benefit the long term success of another.
Politics is an ugly business, they do favors for each other. You scratch my back I will scratch yours. It makes for strange bed fellows for sure.
It is my impression that the IHL Board can only deny or approve who Ole Miss submits. I was unaware that they could decide beforehand whether or not someone would be approved. Isn't there a process in place, some criteria that has to be discussed and reason given for a denial?
Good ol' boys doing good ol' boy work.
