I'm "hooked" on "Swamp People." The only reality show that is real reality, not scripted.

I hope this is sarcasm. If not, please bring this to the Outdoor Board and prepare yourself

Absolutely!! Looking forward to it. I've read all the books and a big fan of the TV series as well.
And yea, if anyone is a big fan of the show, they owe it to themselves to read the books. Great stuff.

never read them, but heard great things about the books... i'm thoroughly enjoying the show. cannot wait!!

I got the full book set as a Christmas present after having already watched every episode of the series so far...
The books are a hundred times better, but honestly, I'm not sure if they would have held my attention if i didnt have the movies to draw on to keep up with all the hundreds of characters and story lines. shite is pretty complex and i still had to look characters up on my phone every now and then while reading to keep it all straight.
I'm halfway through the second book now and am looking forward to getting into some new territory that the show hasn't covered..
For anybody that has read the books, when does that start happening?

there are a lot of minor plot lines in the books (that could become huge plot lines dependingg on how Martin finishes it). The end of book 3 has some stuff the show hasnt brought up yet that will be a surprise though.
also, a good website to keep tabs on the characters is a song of ice and fire wiki. be careful of spoilers though.

I had already seen the first 3 seasons when I read the books. The first 2 books definitely were slower going but set the story up in a way the shows just can't. The third book for me was the best by far, probably one of my favorite books ever. There's a lot more explanation about things that the show kind of glossed over. They took some shortcuts with the show last season that were somewhat disappointing (still love the show though)
The 4th book isn't the best, but it starts picking up again in book 5. The very end of 3 and book 4 is where new stuff will come in for you. I've re-read the first 3 but am trying to decide whether to go through the 4th one again.
There's also a website that is like a wiki but lets you enter what book you're on and avoids spoilers based on that. Can't remember it off hand but if I find it I'll post it.
ETA: Tower of the Hand. You can put what book/episode you've completed and when you search characters to remember who is who it won't spoil anything.

Thanks. That's the one I usually go to. Usually just looking for a picture, and I can then remember some background from the show. And use the cliff notes on each house in the back of the books.
Watching the series, there's a bunch of relationships between the different characters in the books that are never mentioned in the show or that went over my head and I never picked up on them.

Thanks. I'll check it out.
I'm probably not going to watch the upcoming new season until I've finished the books, but I did see a sneak preview of it on HBO OnDemand and it looks pretty fricking badass..........

Might not matter, because the show runners have openly admitted they've gone off the reservation from the books' plot.

Lady Luck, you are 36, or just turned 37.

Yea I think you'd like finishing the books first (what's published at least). I'm going to give in and watch this season but debated not doing so because I know they're gonna advance certain storylines beyond the books.
And yea, they're about to make some huge departures from the books this season (that or just speeding up the timeline by leaving out big chunks of stuff because the producers have been pretty adamant that they want 7 seasons while HBO has said they'd prefer 10 I believe).

Hopefully that won't include HBO expanding their gay porn fetish..
I was relieved to find out that this awkward garbage was not part of the books. There are some perverts, no doubt, but it's pretty subtle and not celebrated like how HBO presents it..

quote:yea I could do without that. They definitely emphasized things that they could've just let be. Reminds me of when South Park made fun of it - South Park GoT song (early season 4 spoiler at the end).

Apparently people were mad because that hadn't happened yet in the GoT show or something when they had that episode. Haven't watched South Park in years though so I am not sure.
Have you ever seen the GoT birthday rap? Some people put a ton of time into this but it is funny as hell GoT birthday rap (only has season 1 spoilers)

I have always enjoyed when I shite on shows like Swamp People and then I have someone agree...only to then tell me about their favorite show that is "real reality, not scripted".
