Should the school let parents have a say in this matter? School posted this on facebook only.

quote:

Beginning April 6 through April 29, Batesville School District will make up a total of 3 days that were missed due to inclement weather by adding an hour to each school day. The school day on these dates will be 7:30-3:30. Doors will be open at 7:10 a.m. Regular school hours will resume on Thursday, April 30. The last day of school will now be May 29.

Fayetteville polled teachers on it via electronic poll. However, before they ever even reported the poll results, they cancelled the possibility of making up time this way. It presents significantly more prolonged of a disruption to people's schedules than just consolidating it into a few days. It really screwed with extracurricular activities and such as well.

Why don't they just cancel spring break?

There is 5 days right there.

The legislature passed a law (guess you would have to call it a law) allowing schools to make up missed days in 60 minute increments, so if the school decides to take that route, it's legal.

Bauxite is another that is taking that route. Bus picking kids up 10 mins. earlier, 50 more minutes (in essence, a class period) added to the end of the day.

Don't know how they are going to decide which class gets the extra period each day in the secondary schools, guessing they will probably rotate.

I'm a senior at Bauxite and it's frustrating as hell how they did it so irrationally. Teachers, churches, students, parents all found out on the Facebook page. I also spent three hours in the audiotorium wasting time for that shite PARCC test, and they think I needed another hour on my day. It's frustrating how they made it start earlier too. 10 minutes might not seem like much, but we have 6 people all trying to get ready at the same time and one little disruption of the morning schedule makes it a mad house. I'll be battling for the barthroom for sure.

Not to mention after watching the seniors brag in the past about how they don't make up snow days it blows so hard we have to make these up. Whatever I guess, I'm out in 8 weeks

Seniors are really mad about it. A lot of people were planning to check out on 3:15 and one guy was making shirts (got shot down quickly though, principal threatened him with in school suspension for the rest of the year). We also got news networks here, which was a pretty neat thing to see unfold (although they were probably coming anyway). There's nothing we can do about anymore though, so most of us are just in the frick the school mode. I tend to agree, so can't wait to get out lol.

This whole thing is ridiculous. A kid's life is not going to change because they attended 5 less days of school this year. Just let it be and move on. No need to make up days at all.

Public school in the us is a complete joke. Even if you try to fail you can't.

Poor Arkansas is one of the worst states in the aforementioned train wreck. What does missing a few days matter? It's just pissing in the wind.
