I've watched UK a lot this year, and again, he's a tier 1 defender. He's huge and athletic.
I guess we will see in the NCAA tourney. If he's coming off of ball screens and switching and guarding elite PGs, and doing it well, I'd be happy to eat crow. But I don't think it will happen.

Not upset at all. Just linking articles that disagree with your statement that he can guard pgs ridiculous.

You're completely missing the point of the "switch". This "switch" is a drop by the big to stop the player coming off the screen. He slows down the guard enough to allow his defender to get around the screen. He isn't guarding the player for an extended amount of time. Any competent big man can rotate down off the screen to help his fellow guard get back in the play. To say a player can guard 1-5 because he can rotate on a ball screen is ludicrous and shows how truly ignorant some are on this board about basketball.

Again nobody is saying he can guard any 1. But he can the ones w/o elite quickness

Willie can guard 1-5. How many people can do that?

which PGs? You can't seem to decide.
and guarding a PG is a lot different than picking one up on a screen.

Already been stated. He can guard the ones w/o elite quickness. On screen switching of course, not guarding the whole game.

How many centers get blown by even average quickness pgs even on screen switching.

Most that play college basketball don't. It's not called screen switching either. It's help defense.

Absolutely. His lateral movement has improved quite a bit despite the ankle injury too.

He did well against some pretty good guards against Kansas, Louisville, Texas (similar in size as well), etc. So I'm not sure what it is you're not seeing that a lot of folks point out mid-game on top of everything else. It's one of the big things NBA scouts have been harping about as well.
FWIW, I wouldn't have an issue with Mickey getting it but that doesn't mean I think WCS is any less deserving. I think anyone complaining about Mickey being "robbed" is just following stat lines.

Yea, you said it after multiple people said you were being ridiculous saying he could guard 1-5. I don't think LSU has a guard with 'elite quickness' but would be very pleased if I saw him at half court trying to face guard any PGs for LSU.

Where have I compared him to average centers? I've stated like 4 times now that he is "tier 1" or "elite" at defending. What else do you want me to say at this point?

What you just stated is what is different about Willie and why Kentucky's defense is so hard to break down.
They actually switch like if it was 2 guards in the pick and roll

It is when our pg gets stuck with the other guy, leaving Willie on the 1.

Eh, not really. He's picking up guys off the screen instead of having to slow them down for the other defender to catch up. He's not helping, he's literally picking up the player and following through on the defense all the way to the basket in most cases (a lot of times resulting in the block).
What you're talking about is what typically happens when you don't have a big man who can guard a guard straight up.

Where did i say you did? I said Willie guarding average quickness point guards.

I have seen him play really well vs elite competition. But there is still a difference in picking someone up off a screen and straight up guarding someone. He could not line up and guard a PG or SG who is coming off of off-the-ball screens, curls, flairs, running in transition etc..
it's just not the same thing

Except he does. That's what we're saying. It's what has made his defense unique this season.

I'm just happy Willie will be taking his talents to the NBA God willing. Kentucky has a ton of talented players, but he is a nightmare on defense.

It's still not proof of being able to straight up guard 1-5. As long as he is able to move his feet he should still be able to play competent defense on the switch because he'd already have separation because of the screen.

Average quickness pgs, not average centers.

I'll agree to watch him in particular vs good teams in the tourney. I'll be there (SEC).
And I have never seen him line up and defend a guard without it being a switch situation. That would not be very smart of Cal, who is an expert when it comes to scouting
