Why pass a new rule when the current rule isn't enforced? Sort of a liberal dem solution to life
I'd have no problem with that but I don't see conference officials stepping up saying what they would do to better resolve the missed instances by the officials.

This isn't about more flags or less flags. It's about stopping teams from abusing a rule that gives the offense a clear advantage

Considering your coach is the one crying about this, I'm not sure I'd use that gif

I blame the new aluminum bats, they could also switch to the K-2 football (smaller ball) could help passing games.

Gimmicks gonna gimmick..

I'm not sure SEC officials are that competent to enforce this consistently, too many other things to watch for.

You almost need an official in the booth just watching for this and signaling it down

I'm sure he was asked to give his opinion, that's answering a question, not crying. He's not Bert trying to ignite a revolution with half-truths.
Regardless, it's fitting an Arky fan would start this thread.

His comments are nothing more than the usual coach's whine when they take away his favorite toy.
He did not use that play much last year, and will use it less this year. I think his fear is with the Officals and not the rule. One yard leaves a lot to the judgment of the Officals, so playcalling will not take any chances.

That's a part of the reasoning behind this - making it one yard instead of three makes the call easier for the refs

Has Saban ever had a rule changed because he used it to his advantage? Don't remember him crying.

It wouldn't cause more flags if players weren't coached to block downfield on passing plays. Now they'll be coached NOT to block downfield.
If it's a rule, just call it enough and players will stop it.

Plus, one yard is ridiculous, a good pancake block will bring you two yards out just falling on top the guy.
I believe if you are engaged with a defender within 3 yards, then the new rule doesn't apply. This applies to OL who are not engaged with a defender past 1 yard.

Isn't the 1yard rule consistent with the pro rule?

Nah, these "men" would rather initiate another rule . Once someone comes along and finds ways to exploit a different rule, they'll be screaming for another rule change.

Yes, and Seattle and Philly ran that same play all year.
