Same here. I was being lighthearted in my response but I can definitely relate to the depression he's going through. I dealt with the same thing in my 20s. My low point wasn't brought on by a break up (had nothing to do with a woman) but a job loss was part of it. I don't wish that anxiety and despair on anyone. It sucks and isn't a joking matter if you've ever been through it.

Hang tough, it gets better and you'll eventually get through it although it will leave an emotional scar for years afterwards.
