The 2015 Alabama baseball team debuts tonight in Hoover when they play Maryland Eastern Shore in the first game of a three game series. Head Coach Mitch Gaspard is entering his 6th year at Alabama where he has a record of 162-130. The strength of this years team looks to be the bullpen lead by ace closer sophomore Thomas Burrows. In contrast, the biggest question mark is the starting pitching. Alabama lost all three weekend starters from last years team with Spencer Turnbull and Justin Kamplain being drafted and Jon Keller out with an injury. Gaspard announced that the four starters for this years team are Taylor Guilbeau, Geoffrey Bramblett, Will Carter, and Nick Eicholtz, but did not give an order. Alabama returns six starters in the field lead by star shortstop Mikey White. Alabama will play all of its home games in Hoover this year while their new stadium is being built. I think right now expectations are for Alabama to be competitive in the SEC and probably be a 2 seed in a regional, but hopefully we can put ourselves in a position to host a regional.

Baseball is finally back! Yus

Thanks for taking this on this season
I'll admit my expectations aren't too high, too many question marks with the pitching staff and a lack of pop offensively. Hope I'm wrong though, excited for Friday regardless.

Definitely going to Hoover this year quite a few times. Gotta get the fans from Hoover and B-Ham to come out and see quite a few games too.
Excited about Mikey White. Guy was a stud last season.

Youth baseball teams and other youth groups are invited to join the Alabama Baseball team on-field prior to the start of the second and third game of each home, weekend series. Children 12 and under can interact with Alabama players on the field while starting lineups are announced, and then stand with the team during the National Anthem.

Also, not that it matters since pretty much everyone hates McCarron now for his mouth, but he's throwing the first pitch

No problem. I enjoy doing it. I am concerned about the offense. We will have to play more small ball this year in Hoover but we still need to have some power in the lineup. Hughston and Haynie have some power but Haynie really struggled at the plate last year. I am interested to see who leads off this year. Salem, White, and Blanchard have all tried it before. I would like to see Salem there so White can hit third, but that's just my opinion.

We are ranked 20th by D1Baseball.com, 28th in the NCBWA poll, and 27th in the USA Today poll. It does not matter much in the pre-season, but it is nice to be recognized.

Just saw the SEC coaches predicted us to finish 2nd in the west behind LSU. Vanderbilt picked to win east. I don't think it will happen, but would love it to. Here's a link to the complete rankings. Kyle Overstreet made the first team and Burrows made second team.

Alabama returns junior shortstop Mikey White. White was recently named to the preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List. The award is presented annually to the nation’s top amateur baseball player. After losing Ben Moore, Austen Smith and Wade Wass to the MLB, White returns as the team's leading hitter. He hit .300 last season with seven home runs and 33 RBI.
“Mikey has been really consistent since day one,” Gaspard said. “He’s one of the few guys that has played primarily every inning since he stepped on campus. We expect a lot out of Mikey, and he expects a lot out of himself as well. I see him this year as a middle of the lineup hitter, and a guy that’s going to be one of the faces of our program.”
White is part of a group of returning position players this season along with outfielder Georgie Salem, second baseman Kyle Overstreet, utility player Casey Hughston and infielder Chance Vincent.
“I think this is a really talented group,” White said. “We’ve got some young guys that will helps us out a lot. As a team, we’re kind of growing into veterans. I think this will be a really fun group to watch, and a really good group to play with.”
The expected starting pitcher for Friday’s season opener is left-hander Taylor Guilbeau. He only made one start all of last year but it was a complete game win against Kennesaw State in the NCAA Regional. Right-handed junior college transfer Will Carter is expected to start Saturday’s game, and right-hander Geoffrey Bramblett will start on Sunday.
Alabama’s home opener Friday is scheduled for a 6:35 p.m. start. Saturday’s game will start at 2:05 p.m. while Sunday’s game has first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m.
Found this in an article on The Crimson White. I think it is good if Guilbeau can be our Friday night guy. Having a senior there would be nice. With Eicholtz not mentioned hopefully he can be our midweek guy again.

Guilbeau is going to have to be the guy we'd thought he'd be his whole career (or the guy he was in the regional last year), and Bramblett will have to continue the run he had coming out of nowhere at the end of last season if we're going to have any chance at all of meeting some of the lofty expectations others have heaped on this team.
As for this weekend, I suppose it'll be a good warmup for the rest of the season. But these are just 3 of 9 games we're playing against the MEAC or SWAC and those are typically RPI killers. Hopefully it doesn't hurt us. At one point in April of last season though our RPI would've been 8 spots higher if we hadn't played a series with Alcorn St. And we swept that series.
