So is his replacement a football guy or a basketball guy.

Hopefully a football guy, but with moderate competency with basketball, or the wherewithal to allow someone else go handle that side of business.

I guess we'll find out now if Alden was as bad as some of us thought. I know I, for one, didn't want him making the next decision for a new football coach. But at the same time, can't deny the good things that have happened under his watch.
They were saying he was also taking a job with the NCAA. No?

I appreciate what he has done for Mizzou and wish him luck in his future, whatever that looks like.
However...
Im relieved. I have MUCH greater faith in Loftin in hiring the next AD than I did with Deaton. That was my fear that Alden replacement search led by Deaton would be terrifying.
It was closing in on time for a change for everyone involved.

Yes, no offense to what Alden has done but I didn't want him hiring the next football coach either. I was terrified of that thought actually and was just telling my dad the other day that I hope Pinkel outlasts Alden for that reason.
Alden was a fantastic marketer and fundraiser, but always left a bit to be desired on the sports side. Only 5 team conference titles in his 17+ years..

Perfectly stated.

Although truth be told, despite my doubts, Deaton came through on the SEC move.

I think this is a good time. From doing some reading it seems like he was forced to step down but it was done in a nice way and will allow Alden 8 months to find a new job if he doesn't end up wanting to teach. I appreciate the money Alden has raised, but our basketball program has imploded under his leadership. Luckily he made the right hire in GP and the football program has done very well, but I was very nervous about him choosing the next football HC after seeing how badly he screwed up the basketball hires. I have a lot of confidence in Loftin getting us a new AD who will make the correct hires going forward.

When I read the title I thought maybe someone from the Tiger Board troll had infiltrated the ranks.
Since it's not a joke, I'm with you 100% kilo. Appreciate the good things that have happened under his watch, but am glad he's on the way out.
I wonder if his departure is the work of Loftin and that he has someone in mind to replace him?

Everyone wants to talk about the good job that Alden did with fundraising but I thought that was part of our problem. That the fundraising and moneys donated were among the lowest in the SEC.
As to the new AD, whoever it ends up, we'll probably get a fair test of his competency fairly soon. Unless TJ absolutely turns it around, this could have been, maybe should have been his last year with the baseball team. His contract is also up or maybe one more year on it. Either way, the new AD will probably get to show what he brings with a non-revenue sport before we have to worry about who he hires for football.

SEC Commish Mike Slive on Mike Alden: “Mike has been a transformative leader for Missouri Athletics since 1998 and he has commanded national respect across the college athletics landscape for his service on numerous NCAA committees. Mike played a critical role in the transition of Missouri into the Southeastern Conference and I will always remember his calm demeanor, his authoritative presence and his infectious enthusiasm as he introduced the Mizzou tradition to the SEC.”

Maybe Alden saw next year he'd have to hire a baseball coach, a football coach, and take shite for the men's and women's basketball coaches??
(or maybe someone didn't want Alden to be the one to do it??)

I like Mike Alden, and think he's a good man. But weren't there some rumors about basketball coaches being reluctant to consider Mizzou because of him? If his reputation is that of a good administrator, but not necessarily a good boss who has the back of his employees... Perhaps that's why Loftin wanted a change, knowing the potential hires that lie ahead.
