Our new chess coach is fantastic! Sorry I can't stick around and chat more but I have to finish my pre-class prep for tomorrow's lecture. Toodles.

Mason has lost the support of all the Vanderbilt fan.

There's Vandy fans on this board?

The fact that they didn't fire him is disappointing. Was really hoping Vanderbilt was committed to having a respectable football program.

Yup, a couple. Some of the smartest people on here.
You know them. I know you do. It's just that you are used to calling them boss.

Fire him after one year? That wouldn't have worked. It would make the job toxic.
I do suspect he is being setup to be fired year two, but I lack firsthand knowledge of that program. Hence the thread.

I'm not sure why they hired him at all.

Mixed, but as far as my opinion of his ability to develop a decent program, it's entirely premature. I didn't expect him to win many this year, and won't expect him to do better next year. He's coached some pretty decent games, and kept Vandy in games against superior talent, especially as the season progressed. So there's obvious signs of improvement, which is all we really can ask for at this juncture.
My only reservation thus far revolves around some of his personnel decisions with regards to the QB. The impression (though not necessarily the reality) is that he's cold on Franklin's recruits, which is silly and has led to a QB-by-committee. We can't run a QB-by-committee and expect to succeed.

Vandy will also have a new OC for 2015. Perhaps that will help somewhat.

I believe the question is directed to Vandy fans, not Vawl fans or Ole Miss fans.
And with regards to the question itself, what do you think our opinion is especially in the aftermath of what CJF accomplished? However, Mason has made some good moves in the post season so far. Whether that saves his job remains to be seen.

What have you been smoking? Signs of improvement? Where? And as far as superior talent is concerned, CJF left us with some of the best talent we have ever possessed including the quarterback who beat UT in Knoxville.

I can see that. I would figure at this point you would be focused on player development.

Thank you for the observation. That is why I made the thread, I would have no clue about the QB situation. Everyone not related to Vandy only sees the decision to be his own coordinator and that kinda hides the rest. Yall have no QBs committed, so is there one he is going for out there that is meant to be the future? Or will he be RB focused?

I honestly didn't know. The way CJF left tarnished his legacy there, kinda like the pigs and their former king hog. Hence the thread.

So you are a Andy Ludwig fan I assume?

I'm sorry, you don't see signs of improvement from losing 37-7 to Temple at home, being slaughtered by OM, and barely squeaking past fricking UMass (who finished 3-9 while playing in the MAC, for chrissakes) to giving UT and Mizzou (at Mizzou) games of it? Yes, we were awful in some late games too (Mississippi State) but there were definite signs of improvement.
And Franklin gutted our recruiting class, among other personnel problems. I'm not blaming him for leaving, but that doesn't mean Coach Mason didn't inherit a clusterfrick.

I don't think any Vandy fan really knows what's going to happen next year. Coach Mason was splitting playing time between 2-3 QBs almost every game even the end. McCrary and Robinette seemed to be jostling for the starting job all through November. That's a bit late to still be testing out QBs.

Good game last night. Your coach sure knows how to get the best out of his players.

Fan is a strong word. But I do understand he has done good things at other programs including most recently Wisconsin. And anything would be an improvement over Dorrell.
Getting back to Mason, I believe he is a decent man but he must be show improvement this coming year or the diminishing fan base at Vandy will reach critical mass. And it doesn't help that we have the worst stadium facilities in the SEC. Many schools in lesser conferences have better facilities than we do. Your aggies just invested 450 million in a basically new stadium. Vandy will not even invest in improved bathrooms.
