"One of the things about the Heisman, and a reason I have no problem with Ingram winning it, is that, unlike most awards, they claim that character and sportsmanship are significant factors."
This is really important in the history of the award.
And funny an AU fan starts this thread. Comparing Bo vs. Mark's Heisman years really doesn't make your case at all.
Bo rushed for 128 more yards in his Heisman year and had same # of rushing TD's.
Ingram had 250+ more yards receiving than Bo and 3 TD's receiving compared to Bo's 0.
I'm not arguing Mark is a better athlete. But He had more yards from scrimmage and more TD's in his Heisman year.

Just remember, Eric Crouch won the Heisman with 7 TD's and 10 INT's.

2300+ yard rusher and he will not even come close to winning, but a 1600 yard rusher wins?
We have protocols in place to make sure this doesn't happen again, right?

Last year Derek Carr threw for a 1,000 yards more than Jameis Winston

Ingram played against better defenses.

Of course he's correct, Ingram did something that happens in the SEC with some regularity, it was a down year and he was on a good team.
He was a good back, though.

Always heard he was a great, hard working kid. If I remember, wasn't it the SEC championship game that lifted him up?

Saints changed their blocking scheme to fit his skill set. It's made a tremendous difference in his performance.

The fact that the Big Ten had two 2,000 yard rushers in the same season tells me the dline talent at Big 10 schools must really suck.
1600 is nothing to sneeze at in the SEC and if LSU would have ridden Jeremy Hill he could've put up some big yards as well.

Anthony Dixon had better stats than Ingram the year Mark won it & Ingram played in 3 more games. (If u don't believe me u can look it up. I am serious)

BS. And there have been several years, even before Ingram, where 2,000 yard rushers didn't win...I believe Troy Davis had back-to-back 2,000 yard seasons, back in the 90's, and didn't win either time...

AUTigermitch1995: Still believe Suh should have won it.
Ingram was a worthy winner in 2009...but any of the other finalists, Suh, Gerhart, McCoy, and Tebow would've been worthy as well. Just happened to be a year where no one put up PlayStation-like numbers. If Ingram had those same stats in the years preceding or any of the years after, he wouldn't have won it. He just happened to do it in a year where Bama went undefeated/captured a title, compiled good stats to be comparable to his closest competitors, and had a couple of Heisman moments (South Carolina, SECCG)...and unlike past (Bush, Bradford, Tebow) and future (Cam, RG3, Johnny Football) seasons, there was no one standout, aka "WOW", player to emerge...

Toby Gerhardt should have won that year. The Heisman is racist.

I'm not trying to discount what Gordon has done this year by any stretch but the guy has had around 100 more carries than most all other RB's in college football.
