My father currently lives in Dallas with his girlfriend.

I like parts of the state. When I was living in Oklahoma for a year I drove down a few times, went through Waco to get there. Loved Waco - I could've lived without Dallas though. Traffic and heat just reminded me of the crappy aspects of living in Atlanta.

I get that not all of Texas is Dallas-Fort Worth, yes. I visited Houston many years ago and marched with my high school in the city's Thanksgiving Day parade. Town seemed decent enough, but didn't get to see a lot of it.

Honestly, I don't see a lot of specific appeal. Like any other state, it has some nice parts and crappy parts. Personally, I think Virginia is much nicer (except the DC area).

If Texas had good beaches, good mountains, decent human beings or a good climate it could be heaven.
