See, this entire "you didn't go to school there, so you can't pull for that school" argument is BS. I grew up a Bama fan, have been one all my life. I wanted to be an architect. Only one school has that in the state. So I went to AU. I still love Alabama football. Hate AU football. I graduated as an EE from UAH. I still love Alabama Football. Hate AU football.
I personally think the arguement about loving your school so much is stupid when you are posting it on a sports board. But thats just my opinion.

lol at bammers talking about another school's mindset. bammers for years claimed to have more class than anyone else despite one embarrassing episode on top of another one. Of course bammers get their idea of class from a drunk, womanizer, and self admitted cheater

Yes. Exactly.
Anyone from the state of Alabama who attended Auburn or is attending Auburn and is not in school for one of the agricultural or other "specialty" programs that Auburn specializes in - that can't be completed at other 4 year institutes in the state - is attending Auburn because they or someone they're related to decided to "be different" and "go to Auburn instead".
That's a generalization, but is absolutely true for the vast majority of students.

I would place some of those in the "specialty" categories that I had in mind when I used the phrase "farmer". Agriculture, veterinary science, and architecture aren't programs available at Alabama, which is why they ended up at Auburn. They didn't choose Auburn over Alabama. They chose Auburn because it was their only decent option.

Absolutely nothing. My grandad walked away from a full ride baseball scholarship at Alabama to go home and be a farmer for the rest of his life - without a degree. I admire farmers. You're putting words into my mouth.

Here's how it goes. I didn't care about Auburn before I attended the school. Honestly, I didn't. I didn't even care for college football or the damn SEC. No family ties, just figured it would be a great school to go to. After some time passes, even on your shittiest of shitty days, you look around the campus and say "damn, I love it here". This school made you care about things on an intense level more than you ever thought you could care about. You see yourself change over the course of the 4 years, and you know you're becoming a better person because of it. And you love it for more than 1 reason. That's why after a bad football game and you're pissed at Auburn, there's still so many other reasons to be happy. It's about appreciating what you have.
I KNOW my family, who did not attend Auburn, will NEVER understand that. That's fine by me, because it's something special to me and to all the others who went through it with me. This is the same as those people who have seen combat or war. Will anyone ever understand what you've done, what you've seen, and all the experiences that you've had? No. No matter how much you explain it they never will. And that's fine. I'm sure Alabama or any school has that feeling too, and it might be different or it might not be. I don't really care, because that feeling I get from Auburn is special and unique. Just thinking about a place on campus just gives me a big grin. And we may voice it more than other schools, but what's that matter to you? No reason to be upset that other people are proud and happy of their experiences.

Yep, pretty much sums up the way me and my family and my friends feel about Alabama, and my parents trying to explain those feelings to me is one of the reasons I grew up knowing that is where I wanted to spend my college years.
It's a good feeling.

I haven't read the entire thread yet, so my apologies in advance if this has been mentioned already, but this reminds me so much of the Michigan/Michigan State relationship it isn't even funny.
