instead of using it as a pretty lame pretext to take shots at alabama, read this article. Board of Trustees didnt make the decision to end football, per the president of the university. The University commissioned a study of the costs of ongoing athletics programs and discovered that they were going to have to sink 50 million in the next 5 years into the football program just to keep up in conference usa, decided it wasnt worth it since nobody at uab really gives a crap about football anyway

Except everybody knows it was the board

pretty sure the board is the only one capable of dissolving the sport

Spin....the study was flawed in multiple ways.
1) folks were asking for the moon, indoor practice facilities, etc.
2) did not include revenue increases
3) BOT on numerous occasions voted against projects, coaches, etc that kept the school from being competitive.
4) this hurts the band, cheer leaders, etc

This is exactly what they would say if it was a BOT cover-up. Obviously the entire thing was orchestrated by the REC acting on commands from Saban. I for one want a full investigation. Nuremberg is going to look like Jefferson County City Court if I have my way.

"Our undergraduates have different backgrounds," he said. "This is an urban campus with a vibrant undergraduate community. Attendance at football games has not been a major part of their activities."

Top 5 in their conference in attendance, they seems like caring. He's just taking the fall for the board.

This has already been covered. It's due to Troy and the other schools on their schedule traveling so well, and their AD said as much BEFORE the season

I mean, sorry that your typical 18-20 yr old college student doesn't want to travel across town to the ghetto and risk their car getting broken into. The only other reason to go to that part of town besides Legion Field is to buy heroin in the projects across the street.

It's funny. I'm a finance guy by trade and a generally intelligent person by genetics.
I read the little "strategic plan for athletics" that Watt put out and it took me about 15 seconds to recognize a couple really obvious things:
1. The "consultants" that were brought in were told, from the start, to find a way to justify killing the football program.
2. The plan is to end athletics at UAB altogether within 10 years.
I'm not going to get into the politics of this shady arse deal (I have my own STRONG opinions)... but, it's obvious that, whatever the reason, the plan is to kill collegiate athletics at UAB.
