Gus just made enemies

Gus done pissed off some people. Guarantee it. It's not going to be talked about in the media, and that's fine. Gus has always used people, but a guy with zero coaching tree using a guy with a huge coaching tree should have been a little more prepared.
Ellis Johnson is straight from the Brother Oliver line. That's a group that's not going to go screaming to some media guy, but they're going to advise a young guy on what to do over the phone, and they're going to laugh about pretenders over beers together. Chizik is in the Oliver and Tuberville line too, and I highly doubt he has a good opinion of Gus behind closed doors.
Will Muschamp, from the Nick Saban line and then the Tuberville line. Tub is from the Jimmy Johnson line. That's a tight group including Butch Davis, Dave Wannstadt, Ed Orgeron, and many others. What do any of you think those guys are telling Muschamp, knowing aubies kind of offense is not a friend to a defensive coordinator. Not to mention that whole fraternity is looking at the Georgia game where Gus' vaunted offense scored 7 points, but then he fires Ellis Johnson weeks later.
I bet Wayne Hall doesn't even like what he's seeing.
Then when you open that up to former head coaches, that's even more pull. Stallings' pull in coaching circles will be huge until he dies. Laugh at some of the Bowdens if you want, that family dynasty has a far reach, and they already hate Auburn. Gus should have owned situations like that before he made hiring decisions.

Gus will go back to the roots from which he came, the Houston Nutt coaching tree, to find a good DC.
Ole Miss will miss Womack.

Gus can always rely on the support of the others in the Houston Dale Nutt coaching tree.

Is this the first assistant coach in the history of football to be fired?
If so, I expect other heads to roll soon.

It's true. Coaches comprise a small fraternity, and they talk among themselves and hold grudges. I've seen it first hand in my own family.
Gus took a different path to his current position than is typical. He avoided a lot of the pitfalls, but he also avoided building that network of connections and supporters.
It might have an effect.

LOL! You think Womack's buddy John Thompson will advise Womack to put his trust in Gus?

I think your point is a little different than "he fired an ineffective DC near the end of his career so it'll ruin his coaching career"
