The SEC should add UAB. They certainly have a lot of fans across the region.

Wasn't Rich Rod Mal's guy until the boosters stepped in?

No, Saban was his man from day one. The boosters stepped in because they didn't want to wait until after the NFL season and lose a recruiting season and forced him to offer Rich Rodriguez. There were some boosters that didn't want Saban because they knew he'd neuter their power over the football program.

But here's the kind of man Little Bear is: He made a fortune from dog tracks, including the notorious track at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, which closed in 1995 after reports of monstrous dog abuse. He's a catfish kingpin whose farm processes 700,000 pounds per week. He's a Civil War buff who has been a ranking member of the controversial Sons of Confederate Veterans. Bryant was quoted in Esquire as describing the clientele at his Alabama dog track as "a low-class, low-income crowd... generally your lower class of blacks, your welfare blacks, you want 'em to have enough room to get in and out

I know its a good story but this is a complete myth. Bama/CMM just got lucky that RichRod backed out and Saban said yes.

Maybe you should read up on your SEC history and which coach did the most to integrate the SEC

Did that integration bug happen before or after Sam cunningham and USC rolled the Tide?

What is interesting to me is this board's sudden fascination with UAB's football program.

Why? I've never attended a football game at UTC but I'd pissed if UT tried to shut them down -- a lot of Vol fans are Mocs fans too.

John Mitchell was already on the 1970 team.

Missing the point. No one like a bully. This is about abuse of authority. Honestly if it were Auburn doing this, I would be just as pissed off.

You are killing a program that is no threat to you solely because a prominent member of the BoT does not want it to succeed.

You are defending the indefensible. If you don't care, that is fine. But if you cannot see how this stinks then you are just blindly circling your wagons.

I just googled UT football. Came up they haven't won a bowl game since 2007 and they haven't won a conference title since 1998. Explain.

Haven't you read all of the Gump's rebuttals? These are all lies and Paul Jr is a bastion of integrity.

The UAB President is killing it, because he is tired of it losing $17 million a year. But your conspiracy theory is more entertaining, so go with it. Auburn fans are eating it up.

ESPN is finally taking notice.
Shadow of Alabama

quote:

Thirteen of the 15 trustees received undergraduate or law degrees from the University of Alabama, including Paul W. Bryant Jr., the son of legendary Crimson Tide football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.

Only three board members have academic ties to UAB. One of them, Barbara Humphrey, is the wife of former Crimson Tide star running back Bobby Humphrey.

“Some of the folks on that board would rather destroy UAB than beat Auburn,” said Alabama state Rep. Jack Williams, an outspoken supporter of UAB football.

quote:

In 2006, UAB had reached an agreement with Jimbo Fisher to become its new football coach. But the board of trustees nixed the deal, and Fisher, who was then LSU’s offensive coordinator, went to Florida State the next season.
