I love traveling to Louisiana and the wife and I go every chance we get. The only really odd thing I saw was, in Gulfport, on the main four lane highway that runs underneath I-10, if you go the opposite way from the mall on the right there is an abandon gas station they have made in to some kind of doc in the box/hospital that advertises Xrays and chemotherapy among other things. It's it front of an old shopping center and it looks like one of the old Citgos.
