Technically Alabama finished third in the conference and got in to the top two spots. Things can happen.

FSU vs Miss State in Rose Bowl may have trouble selling tickets

but why would the committee care? They don't have a stake in ticket allotment or TV adshare..their one and only job is to pick the 4 teams. If there ends up being a less than favorable pairing, well that's on the bowl committees and TV stations to worry about.

I dont think there's anyway Miss St gets past #4. So for there to be a rematch in semifinals they have to put Bama #1. So Bama vs MS in the Sugur, which sends FSU to the rose to play Oregon.

Or FSU is #1 and they play Miss St in the Sugar which sends Bama to play Oregon in the Rose.

Will be interesting to see how they seed them.

There's no way the committee puts in a team that finished 3rd in the SEC over two teams that won their conferences and only finished with one loss

Then we need to do away with the committee, because having ohio state play in this simply because they won their abortion of a conference would be a joke. That team struggled with Navy

Wiki says this, which I found interesting.

yeah they've said for a while that the 1 seed will play closest to their campus, and 2v3 will get the other venue.

quote:

something like number one seed Bama and fourth seeded LSU get sent to Pasadena instead of NOLA because of this

I don't think that's what they meant, but I could be wrong.

See, I think they want to avoid the rematch. So they don't get it out of the way in the first round. They put them on opposite sides, because basic odds favor at least one of them losing. And then, even if both win, they can say "Hey, they earned it. You can't complain."

its already been posted that they will make sure the top seed doesn't have to travel far...it just makes sense...the bowls that signed on for this would demand it.

So if UGA beats Alabama should they get into the playoff over Ohio State?

well, it says on Wikipedia that 1v4 is in Rose Bowl and 2v3 is in Sugar Bowl...so something will need to give.

Somebody from the southeast is going to have to travel to the west coast to play Oregon it seems. 1 V 4 will meet in New Orleans

well that's contradicting info

Is it set that the numerical matchups take place in ____ venue or is it top seed travels shortest distance?

I think Georgia would be an exception due to the way they lost and who they lost to.

Georgia and MSU are two completely different animals though.

I'm not sure how a Georgia reference was deducted from anything I posted, I am an advocate of the best 4 teams with the best 4 resumes, conference champion or not. All conferences are not created equal, so that is a flawed metric from the start.

Georgia would not have a top 4 resume even with an SEC title because they lost to two pretty bad teams.

Also State has only beaten one team that is currently in the top 25.
I hate this metric. It's completely subjective. How many teams has MSU beaten that are top 25 in basically every computer ranking. People that think this whole committee playoff thing was meant to prop up the SEC are delusional.

Ok. And if TCU won out and won the Big 12, they would have one loss to a top 5 team by only 3 points. Why would you put State in over a team like TCU who won their conference and only had one loss to a top 5 team?

TCU and State would have almost identical resumes but TCU would have the conference championship. How would you put in State over them?

I think they seed it so you get the best ticket sales.

For example if FSU is #1 they will play in the Sugar vs #4. They're not going to put Oregon at #4 and make them travel across country to play and then send MS and Bama across the country to play in the Rose. The fan bases wouldnt travel as well.

you're a lot sharper than that man. Money makes the world go round. If you think this is 13 people sitting around a table making a decision without even taking finances into account then I overestimated you

that's probably just a placeholder...like you said earlier and me as well, the committee said the 1 seed will play closest to their home.

If FSU or bama is the 1 seed, they'll be in NO. At least that's how I understand it.

Personally, yes I would. MSU has better wins in my opinion at this point than TCU, and a better loss for that matter

Um, the entire playoffs is owned by ESPN. If they want to stay on the committee they care.

Or they would do the opposite to prevent an all SEC final
