You do realize that they roll the grass in the parking lot when they aren't using it.
No they don't. Two different stadiums.

And are you saying that we are still paying off the turf or it cost money each year to keep it up? Because it is payed off im sure and it doesn't require any yearly upkeep.
It does require yearly upkeep. Enough so that when all things are factored and distributed over time, it's about twice as expensive as natural playing surfaces. Nvm the correlation being found between the rubber widely used early on and cancer...

Ah yes -- we're obsessed and you could care less -- that's it.
Seems like you are already prepping the "They just care so much more than us and play for HATE!11!" excuse 4 weeks in advance.

I know of a guy that dropped dead from cancer during a post game interview after playing on turf

Am I the only person that likes the turf? I get the only traditional football thing, but we are a speed team thus it benefits our philosophy and we have shitty lights, so with the turf being brighter than grass, it looks better than it would with grass. I have always liked the turf. I just dont get the big inquiry

So you think the best team always wins the egg bowl? If not then your argument is invalid. Thats not an excuse with this staff anymore. With Nutt it was. This staff understands this game. If anything we had too much hate last year and didnt play very composed

I don't mind the turf at all. I think it has a clean and crisp look to it.

"Youre only saying that because you want state's grass and cant admit it."
State fans... tell me you arent thinking this? ^^^
If not then why is this thread still going?

I'm a Tennessee fan and think turf looks better. I don't see the big deal here.

Can some state fan tell me how to grow grass under my crape myrtles and leyland cypruss trees? It's bare dirt under those things. Or should I get some turf and put it around them?

It'll never look as good as well kept grass. The real thing..

Both of those argument are bull shite. I have seen them do "upkeep" once in 5 years on that turf that it was to replace the red writing in the end zone and at mid field because the color had faded. And I was in VHS at least twice a week over that span.

I don't really give a shite that an Ag school can grow better grass. I don't understand why they care so much about our turf.
Until there are legitimate studies highlighting more injuries on turf compared to grass, I'm in favor of keeping it.

Hold on there partner. I have never claimed it should have been a penalty of that injures in football are avoidable. Simply stating that the way he was tackled produced the same effect as if he had been the victim of a illegal horsecollar. I don't care if they change the rules. Not enough people get hurt like that anyway.
The reason for the horsecollar penalty in the first place is to avoid major leg injuries. I don't see why there is a distinction between grabbing the shoulder pads or anything else that creates the same kind of tackle. UK had a similar tackle on Mauk on Saturday, and he was not injured. Like the Treadwell tackle, it was perfectly legal. Mauk was lucky.
Some rules are designed to help prevent injuries. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they declared all horsecollar-type tackles illegal. If a player is injured on this type of tackle, it is almost always season-ending, and in some cases it is career-ending. The distinction shouldn't be what they grab. It should be a penalty if they grab high from behind and then land on the legs while the ball carrier is bending the wrong way.

Thats on a bright sunny day.
See how much brighter our field looks? And Im not saying I think ours necessarily looks better than yours. Just that ours looks good and why change it

That picture isn't even from this year.
Ask any player what they'd rather play on. Fake turf kind of fits OM though so I kind of get it, and it does look good but grass is better IMO and in most players opinions..
BTW I used a picture from this weekend on purpose.

Posted on 11/4/14 at 10:06 am to Whereisomaha
No different. Just saying I looked for a current pic, not a "green" pic..

We've had turf long before the south endzone expansion.
Even when the expansion occurred, I highly doubt that was a major factor in going back to turf. I haven't been able to find evidence of Ole Miss choosing turf over grass because of the inability to grow grass. The only article that I could find suggests that the staff thought our players would perform better on the faster turf. LINK
Oh and 2003 the turf costed us $750k. We replaced that turf 6 years later for $500k. Seems like the turf is MUCH more expensive to me.
1970 - AstroTurf installed
1984 - Replaced AstroTurf with natural grass
2002 - South Endzone expansion
2003 - AstroPlay turf installed
2009 - FieldTurf turf installed

Looks better but that might be due to the lighting differences.
