Nobody knows anything about Ebola.
I just want it to go away so I don't have to be reminded on how uniformed and susceptible to sensationalism the vast majority of the public is.

I calculated the odds of getting ebola and it was something like
0.000000000011%
done by taking all ~11000 cases dividing them by all the people on the planet. 7 billion.
or if you want to do so more locally, take all the cases in the US (5? 3?) and divide it by 350 mil. and those are your odds of getting it.
at this rate we should be hysterical over flu. which kills way more people. Or lightning strikes. Car crashes anyone?
this shite is getting so old. fricking hate major news networks. Will do anything for ratings. morons.

New York City is a terrible place for that disease. Dallas is very spread out.

Well, to be fair, that isn't how you calculate the odds of getting Ebola. That's how you calculate the odds that you already got Ebola. To calculate the odds of a U.S. citizen getting Ebola, you'd have to have a number of assumptions, including how many people will enter the country with the disease, the number of cases of new infections for each one of those new infections and the effect of health protocols over time on those two numbers (just to name a few).

IMO he should be put down. He should know better than to do something like this. If killing him is too much then at least strip him of his medical license. Highly negligent to go to a ebola area and then out about town.

So you disagree with the CDC.

He was feeling weak and lethargic during his night out on the town. Fever is not the only symptom of Ebola. In fact, 13% of Ebola victims don't show fever as a symptom.
At some point one of these reckless healthcare workers is going to plant the virus in a densely populated American city and we're going to see just how difficult it is to eradicate. This doctor should have self-quarantined himself for the 21 days it takes to be sure he wasn't infected. I hope the virus eats his balls off.
Even with our sophisticated healthcare system, the human factor that's causing the virus to be so efficient in West Africa is the same everywhere. People can't keep their hands off each other.

This little fact is widely ignored.
The only worrysome thing about this is that US patients are going out when some symptoms are present.
The Dallas nurse flew with a known fever.
The NYC doctor went around the city on public transportation while 'feeling fatigued'.
They had symptoms. Certainly they were mild symptoms but I don't think anyone knows when the 'contagious' threshold gets crossed. It probably varies by individual - a 99.5 in one patient might be OK and might turn another into Typhoid Mary.
Not one but two medical professionals who both KNEW they were at risk for developing Ebola were out in public after the onset of symptoms.
The fact is that the people who know better aren't taking reasonable precautions (hell, Nancy Snyderman went on a resturant run while supposedly quarantined) to protect themselves and the public. Their behavior alone should should be troubling because if they don't act right, joe public damned sure won't.

In related news, Nina Pham is clear.

This is why we are all doomed.
Just think about it, once flu and cold season starts......everyone is experiencing Ebola symptoms......
