couple questions about Houston Nutt

I'm not THAT familiar with Nutt but I know he was a pretty good coach at Ark & had a few SEC West Championships. I know Ark fans didn't like him towards the end & wanted him fired (not for sure why cause he was pretty good).. I know that first year he was at Ole Miss he had an awesome year, beat Florida, Texas Tech, LSU, etc. & had a good 2nd year (not as good as was expected though) & then he had 2 terrible years. My question, what happened with Nutt? How did he go from being real good for 2 years to completely sucking for 2 consecutive years? And.. Is all the Ole Miss hate for Nutt just because he had those 2 bad years or is there some other reason? And also, why do Arkansas fans hate him? I guess I'm basically wondering what's up with all the hate for Nutt. I'm kind of surprised nobody has hired him although I heard Memphis offered him a couple years ago.

Troll. He sucked here most of the time, and lucked into some shite.
He is PART of the reason Gus left. I'm no Gus disciple by any means but I don't think his time here was fair for him either.

You give Dak a bad name and are unworthy of anything related to him

Nutt came in, had junior and senior classes stocked with NFL talent in 08/09, and won 18 games in those 2 yrs. But honestly, he lost several he shouldn't have like Vandy, wake, and USCe in 08, as well as USCe, Auburn, and State in 09.
After that, his laziness on the recruiting trail and in team discipline began to show, his shitty fricking strength coach did not develop the players physically in any way, and our OL play just tanked under his buddeh Mikey Markuson.
Yes, he brought in some MS kids that are serious players for us now like Golson, Prewitt, CJ, Bennett, and DT- BUT go look at his classes as a whole. They are chock full of guys who were complete busts. I could reel off 15-20 names off the top of my head who were complete duds. As in, never made any sort of impact.
The team fell even further behind in 2011 and just quit giving a frick - just like Hootie. He and his staff quit recruiting after the week 2 loss at Vandy. They knew they were gone and they just checked the frick out the rest of the year.
So once again, the fact that Freeze has us anywhere near where we are is nothing short of amazing.

I looked up his records at Arkansas. He did pretty good there. Like someone else said, maybe it was luck? Either way, he did good at Arkie. If it was obviously luck I can understand the dislike though. I don't remember watching his Ark teams very much.

You should have contacted me first. I would have warned you that Arkansas fans are utterly incapable of hearing Hootie's name without going into a frothing, incoherent rage at the very suggestion that Nutt didn't lose every single game while at Arkansas. They just can't help themselves.

If you have to ask, you're too stupid to be given a serious answer

I can understand the hate if he just quit on y'all his last year.. Quit recruiting & all that.. What happened in 2010? Y'all had some talent. Was that just straight up bad coaching?
ETA: didn't realize Nutt recruited y'all's senior class this year. I guess it just seems like Freeze has been there longer.

Stopped reading after this. Matt Jones and DMac saved him from being fired after 5 seasons.

lol no
With the talent he got us in the back field we didn't do much with it. Never had a good qb under him. Matt Jones was a runner and he ran off Gus and his guys. Him and Broyles just meh after a few years together.
Ole Miss learned

Actually truth to this. He went 75-48 over a 9 year run and was SEC coach of the year in 2001 & 2006 (no other coach at Arkansas ever won that award). Historically he wasn't that bad, not nearly so much as some try to make him out to be.

Okay, so not all Arkansas fans have this reaction. That'll teach me to be over-broad in my generalizations.
But, yeah, I do get why lots of Arkansas fans aren't fond of Nutt. It's just the level of rage so many display that befuddles me. By any reasonable standard, Nutt gave the Razorbacks some pretty good years. He wasn't Saban, but he wasn't Smiley McJLS either. For that matter, he managed to win the West twice (three times, technically), which the much more revered Petrino never managed at all.

He was fricking with his secretary and some other stuff when they kicked him out. And he blew games he should've won at arky especially with the talent level he had... Gus was the one winning games. In spite of Nutt. Gus got those awards for Nutt.
And ole miss dumb arse good ole boy athletic director Pete Boone said... Hmm I'll spend about 7 seconds worth of research on a coach.. That guy. Same thing he did with. Nike Contracts and Coach Orgeron before him... He'll Cutcliffe should never have been fired..... I'm glad he was because through all the pain it took we found freeze... But still Cutcliffe was a pretty good coach, recruiter, and man.

No. He got Eli. That's it. He told Deangello Williams he wasn't big enough to be an every down back and recruited Patrick Willis to play tight end.

If he can win his division in the acc at Duke... I'd say he is a pretty good recruiter and offensive coach...
He was the reason Eli was comfortable with ole miss because he coached Peyton... I think right?
He is no hugh freeze on the recruiting trail ( no one is) ...Or Saban, Sumlin, Jones for that matter...
But he can recruit... Now at least.... Maybe i pumped to much sunshine on the ole miss years recruiting..

he wasn't a great coach. he wasn't a horrible coach. he wasn't an avg coach. he was just below avg.
reasons why he was ran out of arkanas
1. complacency. it wasn't the fact that he never won anything big, it's that he never strived to win anything big. he basically tried to convince arknasas fans that 6-6 is the best we can hope for and be happy with it.
2. he never developed a QB in his life. He was a QB lol.
3. we wanted to get rid of him in 2004 lol. he was whooed by nebraska and we pretty much prayed he took the job. he didn't and got a 2 year pass to be horrible in return. we were stuck with him for 3 more years
4. he lucked into DMAC. Dmack would have palyed for me if i coached at arknasas, there was no situtation where dmac wasn't going to arkansas. he lucked into matt jones. matt jones wasn't ever going anywhere other htan arkansas. i'll giv ehim felix jones. he lucked into Payton hillis.
and even with 3 fricking nfl running backs on the same team, a top 10 pick on the defensive line (jamal anderson) and a college shut down corner in chris houston, and an all pro Left guard playing fricking tight end in jason peters, the best he ever did was a cirtius bowl loss lol. 2 of them.
the lsu game in 2006 where we ere a top 5 team and if we won out we had a real shot at the NC game, our QB threw for 26 fricking yards lol. DMAC threw for 40 lol. AND IF NOT FOR TENDON HOLIDAY LAST MINTUE KICKOFF RETURN WE WOULD HAVE WON

Uh, no.
Gus was just 'there'. HDN took over the offense pretty quickly.
