With om and miss state in the mix, probably a good thing

If Archie is on committee and om gets in with 1 loss, everyone will say Archie used his influence.
If state with 1 loss didn't get in, state fans would say Archie used influence in negative way.
Not saying Archie would do either bc I think he's good man, but people would say it IMO

You may be on to something. I can't blame him.

Archie immediately recused himself from any committee discussions involving Ole Miss. Which actually would have hurt us.

Smart move on his part.
ETA: he's one of the most easy to like guys in college football. He doesn't want to give people a reason to hate him. Especially in Mississippi.

Yep, definitely a political move. Plus he is only having knee replacement surgery, not like he's deathly ill. With the probability of state and/or ole miss getting in, it's a good move on his part.

He's one of the most neutral and universally liked people in sports. It isn't like him to be anywhere near a lightning rod for criticism - which this committee will be. The way this season is playing out, they better be fortifying their bunkers.
I agree it was a political decision. I just think it kind of hurts the perception of the committee for people to be jumping ship already.

Archie wasn't at the game to see Peyton break the record. I think this is more than political.

Sorry to hear about Archie. I hope he is able to recover. As far as Archie stepping down b/c he is fearful of politics, that's doubtful. Ole Miss fans threatened him and Peyton when Peyton chose Tenn. LSU fans screamed about the Manning boys dissing them. Certain bandwagon Saints fans called him a traitor because he pulled for his son in the SB. He is used to all the drama and carries on as always with class. Committee will lose a clear headed and knowledgeable member. That's a shame.

Danny Kanell should get his spot

Hope they give it to Spurrier since he isn't doing much these days.
