If they are going to stick with Kenny Hill and if other teams are going to keep sticking 5 in the box daring us to run, then I think Ags are going to have to start letting Kenny run with the ball by design. Start sending the receivers a bit deeper and push the secondary back a bit. Flare the RB out so the linebacker slides and tuck it and go. Let's see what Kenny can do one on one in space. He looks capable when he runs.

There has got to be a way to force them to honor either the run or the threat of Kenny running. We need to change something up from our 1 back set to get our receivers some breathing room.

Very little misdirection in our offense also. Pure bootleg looked open last night. Their ends were flying in from the weak side. Something is open.

If he can't throw worth a shite, then let him run with it.

Agreed. Also, our offense no longer has temo. Rarely are we putting people on their heels by going fast

The real problem is our O-Line. How did it drop off so quickly? Was it all Sherm's coaching that held over for a few years?

IMO our offense is very predictable right now. By that I mean when the D goes into a certain set, they know we are going to run. They know we are going to throw the bubble screen, etc...

I am not sure how much of a drop off there is . There is some but I didn't really think it was that dramatic. Last night was pretty bad at times.

The line provided Hill plenty of time to throw vs MSU when the game was close and they did well against Arkansas also.

I think the running issues are more of a function of our bad passing attack. Maybe you are right, maybe the offensive line has dropped off more than I think.

Not really sure anymore.

The OL got owned in the first half and then the game got out of hand. 1.5 yards a rush is not going to get it done.

If our OL gets physically whipped again by Bama's front 7 we will have a trend that will concern me. I am hoping that last night was just a bad game by the unit that was made worse by Ole Miss being really good and physical on defense. They were tackling like mad men last night.

That seems pretty clear now.

I was extremely impressed with OM's defense. Felt like we were laboring for every yard we produced. They made tackles in space, dominated the edges, and nearly completely shut down YAC for our receivers.

hey made tackles in space,

That was the most impressive part of their D. They can definitely tackle. Fundamentally very sound.

I saw no great holes to run through, and Kenny was getting a ton of pressure. I think everyone not Ced on our Oline is suspect, which sucks beecuase that is our future.

The lack of YAC took away the effectiveness of the short, easy throws. Our receivers could not break tackles.

I did notice that Hill finally started using the check downs to the RB. He probably had at least 5 or 6 of those instead of forcing the ball into coverage. Those decisions were very effective as Ole Miss dropped back to play the intermediate pass routes. This needs to carry over to the rest of our games.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm hoping Sumlin fires both offensive and defensive coordinators at the end of the season. 3 years to build a defense and there is still some holes to fill. I understand that we took some risks by recruiting questionable linebackers that never stepped foot on campus, but that still shouldn't explain our awful defense. Its been 3 years. No excuses.

And for Spavital to have been a former QB coach, he sure hasn't developed Kenny Hill one bit. Granted, he is a RS Freshmen, but in a system offense like this, you either work or don't work. 3 weeks against SEC opponents and our offense looks like a Big12 team playing SEC football for the first time. (Like TxTech vs Ole Miss in 2008 season).

We can't just stop there.

Our offensive lines have gotten worse under B.J. Anderson and our linebackers clearly haven't done much under Mark Hagan.

this is a major overreaction thread

why cant it just be that Ole Miss and Miss State are actually legit and that Arky is a hell of a lot better than anyone anticipated?

You are right, this entire thread is a MAJOR over reaction. I am going off the deep end suggesting we ought to call on Kenny Hill to drop back and run with the ball more.

You are right once again. Ole Miss, Miss State and Arky are just a lot better than anyone anticipated.

Since the talent level is about to drop off across the ball when we play Bama and Auburn... those bubble screens and draws ought to work breathtakingly well. We need to just keep doing what we have been doing. Basically the same stuff that worked against USCe, Lamar, Rice, and SMU.

Yep, no need to consider doing anything just a bit differently with the people and personnel already on the field. Just a total over reaction on my part.
