I hope this guy gets the death penalty. It's ridiculous how freaking stupid and petty an issue led to 3 deaths.

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — A witness says an argument over staring led to the shooting that killed two one-time Auburn University football players and another man.
Ashanti Jones testified Thursday that then-Auburn football player DeAngelo Benton and 24-year-old Desmonte Leonard began arguing because Benton thought Leonard was staring at him during a party.

Leonard's attorneys say he fired in self-defense after being attacked. He's charged with capital murder.

I hope folks like Benton, realize their "disrespect" and attitude fosters nothing but bad news. Not blaming him for the shooting, but arrogance like that does nothing to diffuse situations
Actually that is exacetly what you are doing.

No, I'm saying it contributed to it. The blame lies with the shooter. But bowing your chest out and resorting to violence because of the way someone looks at you, was definitely a contributor. And this isn't a school fan issue. It's a societal issue.

I was talking to Jay Reeves, author of the AP story.

That wasn't in the actual story. Don't know why OP put it in the quote. Also, its not clear that the staring was what started the fight.

Previous evidence indicated the two were arguing over a woman.

To be clear, this is not in the AP story but added by the OP.

Staring is rooted in our evolution as a hostile, provocative act. Many other primates engage in fights because of staring.
Bonobos, though, just screw each other. They'd rather have sex than fight to settle differences.

Was trying to figure out what he meant.

I went back and edited to add my own commentary. Didn't realize I put it in the body of the quotation. Oops.

I wondered when we'd hear more about this case. Woosie in the attic is one of my all-time favorite OTB threads.

I was working. It was purely accidental.

I had forgotten all about the great attic seige.

The attic fiasco was an instant classic. Wasn't there a ranter on the scene reporting live?
Posted on 10/2/14 at 5:40 pm to semotruman
Pretty sure there was, forget who though. Seems they lived a neighborhood or two over from there.

Y'all are gonna have to inform me of all this attic nonsense, don't remember it at all for some reason

Desmonte Leonard, nickname Woosie, fled from the police and there was a manhunt for about 3 days. At one point, they were sure they had him cornered in a particular house in Montgomery, I believe. They evacuated the entire neighborhood, SWAT was all over the place. They had dogs and heat-seeking technology. They were convinced he was armed and dangerous. Went into the house, didn't find him. So they were sure he was in the attic.
This went on for some hours. Teargas was shot into the attic, and robots sent in. Someone on twitter, claiming to be him, is tweeting hilarious messages about all the things in the attic. Of course it wasn't him; the guy tweeting was located and arrested. Ultimately, he was never in that attic. He negotiated turning himself in a day or two later through his attorney.
The thread was hysterical though, and there was a ranter who lived nearby who went as close as SWAT would let him and posted live updates. Many, many lulz.
