To honor Chucky Mullins.

Does this not violate the same number on the field at the same time rule or does that only apply to jerseys?

Or did they get special permission?

Didn't they already do this?

Kind of takes it from a subtle recognition and honor to "hey look at us".

Sure they don't mean the little stickers on the back of the helmets?

ETA - Nevermind, just googled.

Who cares, no one will be watching the game anyways.

That's pretty cool. Chucky was a fighter after his injury. Why not use a national stage to honor his legacy.

Gives us a reason to play with passion the week before the Alabama game. It would have been easy to show up flat. Now they will have to play hard for Chucky Mullins.

In basketball after long-time basketball manager Bill Keightley died they all wore jerseys with his name on the back. They got it approved through the NCAA.

I'm not flaming, but I'm always a little surprised at how big a deal the Chucky Mullins thing is. It's a tragedy of course, and the subsequent friendship and stories are very touching, but it seems like it sent some real waves through Mississippi that perhaps others (me) can't appreciate.

I can understand how it happens, however. Not that they're similar scenarios, but for a guy I didn't know, the Lutzy thing shook me up good, and did the same to most AU people, I think. I'm sure outsiders didn't quite feel it the way we did, which transcended your typical former player death/serious injury.

Just confused why a number can be worn but not a cross? Good luck explaining that one.

Way too over the top and probably against the rules but they'll get a pass since it's for honoring someone who died.

Totally misread the title and was wondering how on Earth OM had 38 helmets.

On topic: Mullins is a part of OM lore and SEC lore and deserves the honor. The helmets are classy and a reminder that this game, even today, is one where one play can seriously injure, paralyze, or kill. Sure it's rare but that needs to be acknowledged.

Well done Ole Miss.

Does ole miss still award jersey # 38 to one of their players or is it officially retired?
