Sims’ 12 completed passes traveled to receivers an average of 2.3 yards downfield.

There seems to be a ton of fricking denial about this.

I think Blake is a swell guy too, but the homerism in here seems to know no bounds. He isn't "taking what the defense gives him", the coaches are game planning around his inability to throw downfield. He hasn't hit a receiver in stride downfield more than MAYBE twice. The few passes he's thrown more than 15 yards (and they're few to be sure) have been at WR's who had to turn around and stand there waiting on the ball. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid of what will happen when we play an actual defense. Maybe this offense will work better than I expect, but I'm not optimistic at this point.

That said, Coker isn't ready either.

Yeah, or we are just going by what head coach says...

I am just going to go out on a limb and say that it has already worked better than you expected before the season. So why not hold out hope that it will continue to put up really good numbers and improve?

@marctorrence: Brian Vogler said that agains Georgia in the SECCG the team ran the same run play 6 times in a row because it was working.

@marctorrence: It was an example of what they're doing now with screens, etc… It's working, defense is giving it to them. Keep on keepin' on.

I understand being skeptical that Sims can't stretch the field vertically until he actually does it, but I also wouldn't make any inferences based on what we perceive to be play calling. In addition to the shots downfield Sims did take against WV, there were two where he stood in the pocket looking downfield before scrambling or checking down. Commentators even made a point of saying everyone downfield was covered. As already pointed out, he had the opportunity to throw deep against FAU but made the correct read instead and hit the open WR.

Not only has he been very accurate on short throws (most important thing in WCO), he's thrown a couple really nice intermediate balls as has Coker

Then why did the coaches call the same play with the deep cross coming under the clear out?

Huh?

Why are they calling the same plays if they don't want Sims to throw down field? Sims completed the deep cross to C.Jones while Coker over threw the clear out.

You guys say this lie and repeat it. Repeating it doesn't make it the truth.

Just imagine if Sims was the one under and over throwing hitches/screens?

Still waiting for teague and ww to admit they were wrong and take their lumps.
