Heard that Cleveland Brown fans were thinking of some new names for their 1st round QB draft pick - 2nd place was Johnny Backup, but the top new name was Johnny Bench.

Perfect.
ETA: Just texted that to a buddy of mine up in Hudson, OH, just outside of Cleveland, who was tweeting me pictures from the Dog Pound last night ... and he said everyone was chanting "Johnny Bird" at the game last night.

If they didn't intend to make Hoyer the starter, they would have traded him prior to the start of the season.

It's true Johnny has played better, but him sitting on the bench while he learns the playbook is probably the best scenario.
He'll be starting by October.
He'll be starting by October.

I've watched all 3 games. Johnny played better in all 3, though neither QB looked good in the 2nd game.
In fact, game 2 is the reason, most likely, that Johnny was not named the starter. Saying he played poorly is an understatement. Still, Hoyer looked worse.
Anybody with a brain knows that Johnny will eventually start. I actually agree with the Browns strategy (though not the way they have handled it via media) to have Hoyer start the season and allow Johnny to take over the reigns once the inevitable happens.
Hoyer ain't the answer in Cleveland. We'll see if Johnny is. If not, maybe Shaw? Maybe nobody?

He looked much better over the weekend. Against the Redskins he looked pretty bad but so did Hoyer.
Agree he will be starting by October, probably by game 3.

Shaw doesn't really have a good nickname. Hopefully Brown's fans are creative.
