their tradition doesn't do shite to their market

according to this website, in 2013 OU/Tulsa had 1.03 million viewers, and a&m/utep had 1.12. a&m/smu had 809k views, ou/iowa sate had 735k. i just don't see it, when it comes to ou being "worthless to the sec". be that as it may, i'm no longer going to comment on the subject, because it will never happen, and for me, it's good news, because since the sugar bowl, they have been beating their chest. i can't imagine how it would be, when they won an sec championship.

You keep coming back to the number of people who watch OU and that doesn't matter. The amount of people who watch OU outside the state of Oklahoma doesn't add value to their market

for the ou-tulsa game, what percent of the 1.03 million viewers, came from outside the state of Oklahoma? my guess, is that it would be a very low percent.

You were just going off on how OU had a national brand and it didn't matter that Oklahoma doesnt have any strong markets because people around the country are interested in watching OU play

and i will stick by that, but you said they were a small market team, and would add no value to the sec, yet they compare very favorably to what a&m does, in terms of the number of viewers, when they play a shitty team....right?

for the billionth time this doesn't matter, and based on that list, the a&m-rice game kills all of the "shitty" games OU played. Not to mention twice a&m had a higher number of viewers than their highest viewed game of the regular season

Any LSU fan that would support ever leaving the SEC should fricking kill themselves. The author of that article is a rank idiot.

If you can figure out a way to monetize the non-Oklahoma resident Sooner watchers at the $1.40 in-footprint SEC Network rate, your argument has merit. Otherwise, all adding a low resident / high viewership state to the SEC would add monetarily is slightly higher ad rate prices.

Besides, Texas A&M is on the cusp of becoming a national brand on par with OU with 10 times the population.

In terms of monetization, the only logical additions remain schools from North Carolina and Virginia.

Texas: 26.06 million
Missouri: 6.022 million

North Carolina: 9.752 million
Virginia: 8.186 million + 632,323 Washington DC
Oklahoma: 3.815 million

Well again, the thread wasn't a dig at LSU. I just wanted everyone to see how Shaggy felt about the Big 12 and and the SEC. I thought it was funny because there have been lots of threads, started by LSU fans, about LSU going to the Big 12. Carry on

IMO, OU really screwed the pooch here. For example, if OU had secured the 14th spot in the SEC instead of Missouri, they could probably have neutralized A&M as any possible threat to them (OU wins history/prestige arguments by a landslide) while they reap the benefits A&M is getting now ($$$ and the"I want to play in the SEC" recruiting advantage for those valuable Texan recruits). The Longhorns would have to choose between the Sooners at the Cotton Bowl or the Aggies on Thanksgiving - they could not afford for their fans to lose all 3 of their great rivalry games (perhaps they would have ditched both for Arkansas, but I doubt it). They would have kept OU (frick Aggy) and now OU has it's #1 game still on the calendar and can look forward to playing in the vaunted SEC West. As others have alluded to, I think the level of politics that kept A&M and texas from parting ways in the 90s to their preferred destinations has also kept OU in the Big 12. TV Markets and $$ rule now (for better or worse) and Oklahoma just doesn't have the market size. But then again, the B1G took Nebraska. It was probably the best scenario for A&M that Aggies joined the SEC and the Sooners stayed behind. They are locked into the Big 12 until the GOR expires or texas blows up the conference.

This is exactly the case!

OU was a fool to not take the 14th spot and then try to deal with their local politics involving OSU. OU could have easily neutralized A&M, but now they cannot. MU was a good alternative for the league and probably a better business partner going forward.

Any further expansion needs to come from the states of Virginia and North Carolina.

If the SEC expands it will be in NC and/or Virginia. Oklahoma doesn't add market value like those states do.

OU is a better football and sports brand than NC state and Virginia Tech, but that's not what earns the conference $ or drives decisions.

Youre on to something. But the brass at LSU is waiting for the pendulum to turn back to the Big XII and then slide over. Somewhere in the 8-10 year range. We will bring the Southeastern Athletes to the Big XII.

Then in another 15-20 we will come back, when A&M is down and do it all over again. This time bringing Texas players with us. Its good to be close to Texas. Leverage. Maybe we can negotiate the SEC office to move to Baton Rouge as part of the deal.

A&M has shown us the light.
