Fox has 49% of the BTN, by design. Enough to get a lot of money, but not enough to take calling the shots out of the BT's hands.
That said, the SECN is already leaving the BTN in the dust, following the example of SEC football.

ESPN has not released the profit share. The carriage contracts are also not part of the public record nor are the costs. It's a rough estimate.
Honestly the widely rumored 50/50 split makes little sense. I'd go into detailed reasons but the gist of it is that the question for the SEC was have a partner or not. Having a partner means (theoretically) a bigger pie but a smaller piece of it.
For ESPN the option was $0 or X%. Given missing on this meant $0 in profit and long term potentially losing the SEC altogether, even a 10% profit for ESPN is a win for them. No idea what the actual split is, but it's obvious the leverage is greatly in the SEC's favor and something as skewed as 80/20 to the SEC wouldn't really be unreasonable. It might also explain why everyone is so hesitant to release it.

I think the SECN will be more successful that the BTN simply because of the group-think mentality (SEC!SEC!SEC!) of the target audience.
That's not a knock on SEC fans but ya'll live and die by the success of your teams and, to a smaller extent, the success of the conference. Add in that the popularity of baseball, gymnastics, etc and it's a cash cow. You may have less alumni than the B1G but you are vocal/loyal as hell and will tune in while the fans of other conferences won't. That's why you saw all of the major players (Dish, Cox, Comcast, DirectTV, etc) sign on for the inaugural season.
Plus you've got ESPiN backing it. The on-air talent seems to be a step up from the BTN and the facilities look top notch.

Actually, I've lived in Big 10 country, but I've never played in more than a light dusting of snow, and that was in North Carolina. It's too damned cold up there to play in the snow when you're a Mi'ssippi boy.

Well, the BTN is successful not because of the quality of the product but because the alumni base of the schools is quite large.
All I care about is kicking arse in football, and whether or not the SEC Network make $400 million or $500 million, I really don't care.

Live or die? Not exactly. And you can't count on regionalism to insulate you from charges that Ohio State fans act pretty much the same way, as do Michigan fans to a slightly lesser extent. Trust me, I've lived up there and have witnessed it in action.

I'm not talking about idiot fans or the antics that they pull. I just think that the average SEC fan will tune in to games/shows that the average B1G fan won't - baseball, gymnastics, etc. - especially if it has national title implications.

Incorrect. SEC fans are like NFL fans - they're fans of the league as well as their own team.
Whereas your average B1G, ACC, XII'er are primarily interested in just their own school.
That NFL-like dynamic is going to carry the SEC Network to a mini-NFL like status, dwarfing all other college networks.

That tard completely overlooked the emphasis and importance of track and field in the sec. I think the sec wins it 99.999% of the time. How could he overlook such an important sport of which the summer Olympics are mainly based on? :jump1: :jump1: :jump2:
