The ice water challenge is stupid. YOu get challenged to do it, but if you don't then you donate $100. Well all these videos show people doing it, so I guess no one is donating money?
It's a nice pr move by them guys, but more people are doing it to be "hip" than to raise awareness. And only 5,600 people are diagnosed w/ ALS a year. Its not like it is an endemic, just a rare disease.
Does anyone else think this is just a publicity stunt more than anything else?

Its a waste of good clean drinking water. At least use piss if you are going to douse yourself with a bucket of liquid.

of course it's a publicity stunt. it gets ALS talked about and then donated to. a lot of people have donated despite doing the challenge.

I believe am official als spokesperson came out and said donations are up 500 percent since this went viral. There is literally zero downside to this. The joke is this thread.

I thought you just "had" to donate only $10 if you do it.
Either way, I dont like being pressured or forced to donate to a charity not of my choosing

I like what Charlie Sheen did. he dumped 10,000 dollars in Cash on his head which he is donating to ALS. he then called out Ashton Kutcher and some others to do the same.

I hope that money is really used to cure the disease, which is horrible.
Billions have been raised to cure cancer and that has turned into a business unto itself.

with most of these, it somewhat goes into funding for research etc.., but a significant percentage just goes into making the charity sustainable for years to come(which isnt what the donations and charity should be about)

sad but true statement about non-profits. obviously they are working towards a good cause, but the majority of money goes to making sure that the employees are paid and doors stay open.
When we were looking at going through an agency for adoption, we were flabbergasted to learn that the agency of 6 people profits 10k an adoption out of 18k we pay for the process.

Everything that I have heard about adoption makes it sound like a racket. I'm sure most agencies are good people, but some must be complete crooks. Haven't been through it myself but a couple of friends have and they told me some shady sounding stuff.

yeah. we moved to the foster to adopt method instead. less money involved. probably more heartbreak.
supposedly foreign is where the real scam is.
