The Big 12's footprint is so small as well. Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, and West Virginia. And they only have 2 football teams that draw national interest. Plus, the Longhorn Network will prevent the conference as a whole from ever having a network. It will eventually be the only Big 5 conference without a network and it is going to be a major competitive disadvantage for OU, Kansas, etc who will have by far the lowest revenues in the Big 5 due to the greed of UT.

It's why Missouri and aTm were fortunate to escape and why the ACC was lucky to (partially) lock down Notre Dame.

Notre Dame was the only available chip that could have kept XII viable, long-term.

The ACC will survive while the XII will eventually implode.

I think you're right but I don't know the timeframe in which things will finally set the destruction.

Is it SECN money?
The end of the GOR?
Who knows. Just glad A&M is out

Certainly they were a big chip in play but getting the Cards in the meantime left more options open and Boren wanted them early on. The ACC really won as they moved first to get a big chunk of ND and all of UL.

I think Texas will eventually be forced to end the Longhorn Network and a new Big 12 network would have to either partner with ESPN or buy the rights to UT games from ESPN. OU is not going to sit back and make 25 mil a year while Texas and the rest of the Big 5 schools are pulling in 50-75 mil a year. OU will pull out and join the SEC which would crumble the Big 12. Texas' only long term option if it wants to keep the LHN is independence. No conference, including the Big 12, is going to let one school have its own network while the rest of the conference is losing 20 mil a year due to having no conference network.
