Riddle me this.... if he signs on as a 2016 recruit does that boost our recruiting ranking?
Not enough to move up in the rankings. We would need a high 3* or 4* to move past arky at #25. If Karamo would have signed, we would've been #24

Anybody know anything about 2016 JUCO DL Josiah Coatney? Apparently is and Bama offered him today. His 24/7 profile looks outdated from high school.

Is that the kid from NC that wants to go to UGA? Coach Thompson is working him to become a late enrollee here?

He is from Douglasville, GA. Was a 3-star out of HS, but now is receiving offers from some big time schools. Alabama and we both offered him yesterday, but it says for class of 2016. I just hadn't heard much about him.
6'5" 275lbs.

Keep seeing stuff about Josiah Coatney. He and Mykelle McDaniel will be visiting March 19.

Yeah he's supposedly a class of 2016 JUCO prospect that has yet to sign with a program. I'm thinking he's still yet to get his JUCO grades needed to enroll at a 4-yr. school finalized, or either that they weren't finalized before but now possibly are, therefore his late activity for the cycle just concluded.
So he's planned to OV to USC on Mar. 19th, and will OV to UF, Ole Miss, and Bama. Per Kornblut Coatney has a lot of family in SC.
2016 DE prospect Mykelle McDaniel is also OVing on Mar. 19th, and is reportedly a heavy lean to USC. McDaniel is a HS prospect, but his signing is late due to not having the necessary test scores (SAT/ACT), and reportedly he's either just now gotten them, or he's scheduled to take them before the OV date. Reports are that should he have them by the OV, he'll commit and sign with us....

Wow ... those are both the kind of players that come out of nowhere and end-up being stars if we can get them enrolled and under our care in time.
Both of them appear to be big time potential Strong Side DEs that Lance Thompson has been out there beating the bush trying to find.
Coatney is 6-5 285 and had offers from Bama, LSU, Florida, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
McDaniel is 6-4 255 and has 38 offers from literally everyone including Bama, Florida, LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, Miami, FSU, SoCal, Oregon, Michigan, Clemson and many more.
Wow ... just WOW!
Thanks for the new info men!

Reports are now that McDaniel has gotten his test scores back and is now a full qualifier. And yes he has a load of major program offers: his ratings weren't great due possibly to his academic situation, but you can use that offer list to gauge how talented he's thought to be...

Exactly. He has a high 4* offer list.

So JC Jackson might just enroll and start classes this summer or fall. We can't officially recruit him or send him an LOI, but the numbers always work out.

Diamonds in the rough .... they're important. The right staff can build on those.
This staff is showing some serious potential. Given time they might really do something special here.

What's this guy's story?

4 star CB that committed to UF. He was between Vernon Hargreaves and Jalen Tabor on the Depth Chart. He was accused of armed robbery, let go from the team and was subsequently found not guilty at trial. Was at a juco this season and is thought to be coming to USC.

I am assuming that Boom recruited him there, so hopefully he gets his act together.

Yes, he was recruited by TRob and Boom to uf. Now they would like him up here, but b/c of recruiting/transfer rules, they cannot officially recruit him. However, he can choose himself to come to SC.
He was actually projected to start for florida this past season, before the ordeal. He was found not guilty of the robbery.

Any word about either of these guys that visited this week? I've sort of been out of the recruiting loop.

We had 3 guys from the high school BAW went to, too lazy to google, came and a WR for the 2017 class was offered. The JC DB from the same school was evaluated but no offer made. I think they are taking a look at the third guy but no offer for him either. They all went to UGA the next day to visit.
A couple more updates here and there on other guys.

I hope the visits with the two big DEs went well today.
We could sure use both of them. Georgia is in on both of them now, and Florida as well.

Two USC defensive targets wrap up visits
By Phil Kornblut
USC is hoping to add to the incoming 2016 class with one or two more defensive players and two targets, DE Josiah Coatney of Holmes JC, MS and DE Mykelle McDaniel of Loganville, GA made official visits over the weekend. Neither committed and both have other visits planned.
Coatney said they had the chance to see the campus and facilities and watch spring practice and everything checked out on the positive side with him.
"I got to see what they were looking like depthwise," Coatney said. "I got to talk with Coach Muschamp about what they are looking for and what they are looking for out of me. He said h needed me. He wants to win now Overall though, it was a great trip. I enjoyed myself a lot."
Coatney said he and McDaniel hung out together with other members of the defense and the two of them got to know one another knowing they could be teammates at USC one day. '
"He said he's looking at some other schools, too, but he said he enjoyed it a lot," Coatney said. "We had a good time hanging out with all the players."
Coatney doesn't plan to make a decision until the first week in April. This week he's planning to take an unofficial visit to Mississippi State. He is going to Ole Miss officially April 1st, Florida April 8th and Alabama April 15th. He's not claiming a favorite at this point.
McDaniel has been to Georgia unofficially and is going to visit Texas A&M next weekend. Alabama has also showed interest in him. He has had USC and Georgia as his top two.
