I really liked how Spurrier(at Florida) would beat teams and not let his foot off the gas, regardless of score. He'd go in dry and WOULD NOT STOP... Wish Saban was more like this... I think if Spurrier were at Bama, he would be a nightmare for many people..

I will give you Gumps "A" for effort. Your offer got every coach on his staff a raise.
Maybe that's the issue Steve has with Nick? Jealous Nick makes more money, gets top recruiting classes on the reg, gets attention and wins more titles?

Steve gets paid to win one game a year vs Clemson, then go golfing and fishing. He found the perfect gig in USCe. He was always a bit lazy.

I would expect Gus's team to win by 2-3 TDs.
Spurrier vs Saban in the same scenario would be the same result. 2-3 TD win by OBC.
LSU has done fine versus Gus Malzahn's offenses; Auburn's had limited scoring success versus LSU running a Malazhn offense. Auburn has been in many close games the past few years versus teams that they out talent, so your point is mute.

Spurrier really needs to know his role.

Laugh all you want, but Spurrier himself admitted that he was indeed lazy at UF.

I was laughing at the "win one game against Clemson" comment.

Who says he doesn't? I found a pic of him out recruiting hard for USCe next Natty.
Just turns out it was a Natty lite.

Saban has held teams to 7 or fewer points 20 times in the last 3 years.
The next closest SEC team has done it 8 times.
If only he could do it on game day...

We are expected to believe that Saban only wins because he has more talent and the opponent is dumbfounded and afraid from the moment the exit the tunnel.
Why the hell doesn't anyone critique other team's coaches that have more talent than their opponent and play a close game or lose the game altogether to a team with inferior talent?

being a great coach is not limited to the plays you call. Much, much more goes into it, which is why some great offensive and defensive coordinators would make horrible head coaches. Saban is unquestionably the best recruiter in the country and his game preparation is second to none. If your players are the most prepared and you have more talent than anyone, you don't need to be the most creative play caller in the world to win. You don't judge a coach based on one aspect of his worth and then call him overrated. You take the totality of everything he brings to the table. Overall, Saban is the best coach in America, and that really shouldn't even be up for debate.
Same can be said about Les Miles. You can find plenty of deficiencies, but he's a great recruiter and has surrounded himself with great coordinators. You don't have to be some play calling wizard to maximize the talent of inferior players to be an elite head coach.

Being dead serious when I say this, I heard somewhere that Spurrier's initial contract with USCe included membership at Augusta? If I'm wrong I apologize

No, better to compare undefeated seasons, as that is a true indicator, too many variables in championships in college:
Saban: 1
Spurrier: 0
Gus: 0
No, that's worse. There's too much variance in scheduling. Comparing number of undefeated seasons would only be fair if the coaches' had the same schedules.

His point if is Spurrier was at Bama he would be raping left and right just like he did at Florida. Proof is in the pudding, spurrier raped way harder at florida then saban has at Bama
No one cares about intraconference dominance. He only won one national title and couldn't compete in the other appearance. The league was considerably weaker during the 90s anyways.

Well this thread is about Nick Saban but if you want to start a thread about any of those other coaches, you're more than welcome too

Think about it, UF won 6 SEC titles while only being able to compete for 2 national titles. That sounds impossible today
How many of them lost more than 1 game? How many lost to rivals Miami or Florida State?
Posted on 7/22/14 at 6:00 pm to Cumulonimbus
crazy how spurrier's only national title was the result of a rematch game almost identical to that of alabama in 2011. #1 Florida and #2 FSU played each other in the final game of the season, close win by FSU. Florida gets a rematch and destroys them.

91: 10-2 (lost to Syracuse and Notre Dame in the bowl)
93: 11-2 (lost to Auburn and Florida State)
94: 10-2-1 (lost to Auburn and Florida State in the bowl)
00: 10-3 (lost to Mississippi State, Florida State, and Miami in the bowl)
Edit: On-the-field SEC champions in 90. Lost to Tennessee and Florida State.

He was lazy when it came to preparation and didn't think defense was important until that beatdown by Nebraska.
As previously noted, the SEC was much weaker back then.
