I just really hope to see Hall and Garrett on the field at the same time a lot this year.

nah, it's a legitimate question. I do wonder why they moved him given Robinson is back. To me it seems he's more needed at SDE. Right now I'm concerned it means they aren't too happy with Manning's development.

Actually, putting Alonzo Williams with the 1st team tells me that he may be the one whose development they're concerned with.
He's moved from SDE to NT to 3 tech in 3 seasons.

He plays inside in the 3 man front but he's never played NT in our base defense. You are correct he played like 30 plays at SDE in '12 when Obioha was hurt. He lost his redshirt very late that year. He's been exclusively a 3-tech since spring of '13.

Is Manning energetically challenged? Serious question.

I don't know but yeah, that's kinda the vibe I'm getting

For third straight day, Jarvis Harrison worked with the second team at left guard. First team OL: Ogbuehi, Gramling, Matthews, Cheek, Ifedi.

Is Harrison still recovering from the bowl game injury?

dunno. It's probably that or he's out of shape from it or he's being punished. I really doubt a 3-year starter got passed for real

Athlon anonymously polled coaches to get their honest assessment of opponents. The whole thing is interesting but here are the A&M excerpts

“They had really young guys on defense, so the biggest deal with them was they weren’t very big and got knocked off the ball up front. Even when they were decent in the secondary, you could run the ball in between the tackles. As long as those guys have stated growing and continue to develop, you won’t be able to do that.”…
“They’ll be good on defense. Mark Snyder got a lot of flack last year because people put up some points but he’s a good coordinator. He’s going to get those guys in position to make plays.”…
“What’s going to kill them is losing not only Johnny Manziel, but a couple of really good receivers and the Jake Mathews kid.”…
“How well they do as a team depends on how their defense does.”…
“I don’t know if their offense will have enough firepower – they’ll always be pretty good under Sumlin, but losing a guy like Evans, he was a playmaker. Losing him will really hurt them.”…
“Last year they had a safety that was terrible, defensive line wasn’t good, really nobody on defense. Those studs they had in 2012, four guys that were difference-makers. When those guys left, there was nobody.”…
“Sumlin has always been a good recruiter. They’ll get good young players. How soon can they be ready to play is the question? They’ve stockpiled a lot of skill guys and some talented defensive front seven guys the last two years so we’ll see if they can emerge.”

That was pretty cool to read.
Do they do this every year or was this the first?

I've read stuff like this in the past. Not sure if it was done by Athlon or what though

Alright alright alright. Let's talk about the other position everyone is curious about. Nothing too surprising
LBs
1st unit - WLB - Hilliard, MLB - Mastro, SLB - Washington
2nd - Sanders, Bass, Baggs
Not really sure where the other guys are but this is how they practiced yesterday. Putting together with Hagen's comments above and you can read between the lines of his coachspeak a bit. Justin Bass has been okay when he's played but I have to say if he really needed to play, I think we'd be in for a long year. Mastro may be the single most important player on our defense.
Btw, was told Hilliard looked niiiice. Actually most of the front 7 looked night and day better than last year and the big question will be at DT. Everywhere else looks pretty solid. Oh and Jay Arnold was with 2nd unit.

Were those other sec coaches, or did they specify?
Seemed pretty fair and accurate. That Snyder opinion won't fly on the rant though lol.

No surprises with the first unit.
I suspect Alaka, Chevis, Walker, and Wade will push Bass and Baggs out of the rotation. Still not sure how I feel about Sanders.

yes, other SEC coaches
There are 7 comments and we play 7 teams last year that we play again this year (6 West + Mizzou) so my guess is those are the 7 coaches

Finally, the fact that Speedy Noil is beating out Harvey for the punt returner’s spot is akin in my mind to Percy Harvin beating out Tyrann Mathieu if they had both been on the same college team. - Taylor Hamm
LSU fans aren't going to like this...

Seems like an odd analogy to me, but I dont have the context of the rest of the article.
